Eat too much fat and you risk doing some damage to your internal organs because they cannot function as efficiently as they should. However, new research findings suggest that grape seed extract, like that found in the weight loss supplement Prescopodene, may actually help prevent kidney disease or, as an alternative, could be used as a treatment option.
On February 28, 2013, a study was published by Applied Physiology, Nutrition, and Metabolism citing research conducted on Tunisian rats. The rats were put on diets that were extremely high in fat, causing an increase in triglycerides (TG) that helped lead them to sustain kidney damage.
Then, they were given the human equivalent of 35 grams of grape seed and skin extract (GSSE) along with the fatty diet to see if their bodies responded differently to the fat they consumed. What they found was that there was a partial reversal of the TG deposition as well as the histological damage.
This means that not only did their bodies deal more effectively with the fat, but it also undid some of the damage. Its hopeful then that these same effects would be found in humans that suffer from kidney disease due to diets which are extremely high in fat.
