KidzVuz welcomed a dozen kids and their digital influencer Moms to Chef Tonis Cooking Adventures in NYC to cook healthfully, and from scratch, from Jennifer Perillos popular new cookbook, Home Made with Love.
We were thrilled when Jennifer came to us wanting to celebrate the cookbook with cooking and videos from kids themselves, says KidzVuz co-founder Rebecca Levey. We have lots of kids on the site already talking about favorite snacks, recipes and restaurants, so it seemed like a perfect fit.
Chef Tonis, a sun-filled cooking school for kids on NYs Upper West Side was the perfect setting for the party. After an introductory talk from Perillo, kids were given a recipe for her All Purpose Baking Mix and given the choice to use the mix to make pancakes, waffles, or cupcakes. Not surprisingly, cupcakes were the overwhelming favorite.
Once the kids were done, they went into the Cooking Confessional to make a video about what they cooked, how, and why. The videos were then posted to KidzVuz.com, and made available on the KidzVuz app.
Part of KidzVuz mission is to encourage kids to think about the things they do, play and see, says Nancy Friedman, co-founder of KidzVuz. One of the most important things they can think about is what they eat. Cooking food themselves empowers kids and ensures that they know whats going into their bodies.
Home Made with Love is a bestseller on Amazon, and the KidzVuz cooking party was the first stop in a multi-city book tour for Perillo but the only stop that included either videos by kids or cooking with kids.
Cooking, for me, has always been about family, and never about being complicated or difficult, says Perillo. The KidzVuz cooking party let me show off that philosophy: these kids did a fantastic job cooking recipes from the cookbook with almost no help from the grown ups in the room.
