Organic Soap and Spa Announces New 100% Organic Lavender Baby Powder

Boulder, CO (PRWEB) May 04, 2013

Baby skin care is an evolving area where organics are really gaining the attention and interest of parents concerned about their children's exposure to potentially harmful chemicals. "According to the FDA, chemicals are absorbed through the skin at 10x the rate compared to swallowing, because the stomach and liver operate as a barrier, whereas the skin has no such barrier." says Organic Soap and Spa owner and activist Joan Torres-Saez. "The effect of chemicals on developing children is thought to be magnified, but there aren't many good studies to tell us just how profound these effects might be. So we created the most organic baby care line on the market. And that includes other products that are certified organic. Our new line is even cleaner, when it comes to chemical exposure."

Recently, products and ingredients formerly thought to be compatible for use in children's products are getting a new, more focused look. Still, many of the ingredients that are cause for concern are not prohibited for use in the US, even for children's products. "We thought it was time to offer a baby care line that was just as green as our adult products. Greener, in fact. Even if an ingredient is considered permissible, by the USDA, we took a very conservative approach on our new baby line." For Organic Soap and Spa that meant eliminating the use of many ingredients that are still found in children's products, even in ones that are certified organic.

The new product line was about a year in development and included field testing by consumers, early product adopters and customers. It features products made out of USDA NOP certified ingredients and formulas, cleansers based on sunflower oil, palm oil and organic essential oils. This line has no chemical preservatives. "On this issue, we're very conservative. We only use organic grapefruit seed extract, and have had very good results with that." says Ms. Torres-Saez.

"There are organics that are really great for baby care, and these are the only ones that made it into this new line. Not everything is appropriate for baby's skin, scalp or bottom, organic or not." says Ms. Torres-Saez. "For example, our Lavender Baby Powder has two ingredients. Thats it. Both are USDA NOP certified. And of course, it contains absolutely no talc. Its so organic, technically, its edible."
