Doctors Health Press Reports on Study: Combination of Vitamin D and Corticosteroids Most Effective in Treatment of Psoriasis

Boston, MA (PRWEB) April 11, 2013

Doctors Health Press, a division of Lombardi Publishing Corporation and publisher of various natural health newsletters, books, and reports, including the popular online Doctors Health Press e-Bulletin, is reporting on a new study finding that combining vitamin D and corticosteroids may be the most effective treatment for psoriasis.

As Doctors Health Press e-Bulletin (http://www.doctorshealthpress.com/womens-health/skin-care/vitamin-d-vs-corticosteroids-for-this-skin-problem) notes, psoriasis is one of those tricky conditions to treat. Often, the cause of psoriasis isnt clear, which can make finding an effective remedy more of a challenge. And while psoriasis does have some unpleasant symptoms, mainly in the form of skin irritations, most people treat the condition because they want to have smooth, healthy, glowing skin.

As the article Vitamin D vs. Corticosteroids for This Skin Problem reports, topical creams that contain corticosteroids are commonly prescribed to treat psoriasis. Corticosteroids are synthetic steroids that mimic natural hormones and are supposed to reduce inflammation and help stop allergic reactions. However, corticosteroids, while effective, can cause a number of prescription drug side effects in certain people. The more potent they are, the more likely a person is to suffer from side effects.

The Doctors Health Press e-Bulletin article states that an alternative treatment for psoriasis involves using topical creams with added vitamin D, which is thought to lessen the severity and length of a psoriasis outbreak, as well as reduce scaling and inflammation. Vitamin D also helps to slow the growth of skin cells, which is a good thing when it comes to psoriasis; the fewer skin cells that grow and become inflamedforming dry, scaly patchesthe better.

According to the Doctors Health Press e-Bulletin article, researchers recently reviewed the performance of these two psoriasis treatments. In all, 177 trials were included in the researchers study. They found that vitamin D and corticosteroids worked better as a combined treatment than either treatment on its own. The researchers also noted that vitamin D was significantly less effective than potent corticosteroids when used to treat scalp psoriasis. However, they cautioned that most of the trials failed to report if long-term use of corticosteroids increases the risk for permanent skin dermal atrophy, a condition where the skin thins.

Doctors Take You Behind the Scenes of Their Cleveland Area Medical Spa, During Dr. Oz

Cleveland, OH (PRWEB) May 06, 2013

A medical spa goes beyond massage and therapeutic skin services to offer professional medical treatments designed for anti-aging.

During Dr. Oz tomorrow, you can see how two Cleveland area doctors have integrated a medical spa within their surgery practice. They now offer an extensive menu of spa services administered by the doctors or staff aestheticians.

The V-Spa is the medical spa division of the Visage Surgical Institute, explains Dr. Quereshy. And there are several factors that separate us from typical salons."

When a patient visits the V-Spa for the first time, the doctors record a comprehensive medical history, conduct a consultation and then design a customized treatment protocol.

New York Medical Malpractice Lawyer David Perecman Supports New Efforts to Increase Hand Washing Frequency by Doctors and Nurses

New York, NY (PRWEB) June 05, 2013

New York medical malpractice lawyer David Perecman understands that lawyers who sue hospitals for infections may use hand-washing compliance rates as part of the information they use to prove or disprove the alleged facts. Now, a number of hospitals are using motion sensors to check to see if doctors and nurses are washing their hands. The sensors go off every time someone enters an intensive care room. They trigger a video camera, which transmits its images to workers in India, who check to see who is washing their hands, reported [The New York Times (5.29.13).

The hospitals are using the sensors to increase hand-washing rates and prevent infection. According to The New York Times, hospital-acquired infections cost $ 30 billion and lead to nearly 100,000 patient deaths a year.

The failure of doctors and nurses to regularly wash their hands is a common and major cause of infectious disease among hospital patients, said Perecman, a medical malpractice lawyer in New York for over 30 years. Every effort to get medical professionals to wash their hands is welcome.

Hospital workers in studies have been observed washing their hands as little as 30 percent of the time that they interact with patients, said The New York Times.

To encourage more hand-washing, other hospitals in the U.S. are training hand-washing coaches, using radio-frequency ID chips that note when healthcare professionals have passed by a sink, handing out rewards like free coffee coupons, hiring undercover monitors, or using other methods to encourage hand washing.

If preventing infection and saving lives is not incentive enough, under new federal rules, hospitals will lose Medicare money when patients get infections that should have been prevented, The New York Times reported.

Infections acquired in hospitals can do more than increase hospital stays. They can kill people, Perecman said.

Studies show that health care workers do not wash their hands for a number of reasons, including complaints about dry skin, emergency environment pressures, tedium, and resistance to authority, reported The New York Times.

Frequently washing hands and using proper hand washing techniques reduces the chances of preventable illnesses, said Perecman. Patients are in the hospital seeking to improve their health. No one seeking care should contract a illness that may be costly and-or deadly because of preventable hospital mistakes.

There is really no excuse for failing to follow simple sanitary protocols, added Perecman.

Compensation in malpractice cases can include coverage of medical bills and lost wages, as well as damages for pain and suffering. Damages can also be paid for future losses such as future medical expenses and wages.

If a person acquires an infection while in a hospital or other health care facility, a New York medical malpractice attorney may be able to investigate whether or not there is a claim against the health care provider.

New Course in Customer Service Training for Doctors and Medical Staff Offered by Private Practice Marketing Consultant Danica Tran with MD Profit Solutions

Orange County, CA (PRWEB) November 28, 2012

Knowing how to effectively interact with customers is the lifeblood of any business. Many medical offices lack the ability to deliver good customer service to attract and retain patients. Danica Tran, private practice marketing consultant, shows physicians and medical staff the necessary skills to create a memorable customer experience that delivers quality customer service across all touchpoints.

Every aspect of the medical business has an impact on customer service. Patients are not just evaluating doctors on what is happening inside the consultation exam room, but rather what their overall customer experience is like at the practice. Every step counts starting with the ease of appointment scheduling, friendliness of receptionists, interaction with nurses, proper follow-up care, and the wait time for the physician.

Training for hands-on customer service begins with the front office staff as they are the first line of communication with potential patients. Understanding the patients state-of-mind helps the team members facilitate actions that cater to the patients well-being. Developing a strategy that helps physicians deliver knowledge and education in a caring manner builds patient-doctor relationships vital for business longevity. Following-up with patients further extends the action of care and service. All these customer friendly processes display commitment that will be rewarded with loyalty and referrals.

Good customer service is summed up as the ability to supply customers needs and wants in a fashion that exceeds the customers expectation, explains Danica Tran, founder and owner of MD Profit Solutions. Great customer service can help patients overcome any decision reluctance. This is especially helpful for private practices offering elective cash procedures such as cosmetic dermatology, plastic surgery, cosmetic dentistry, hair transplant, and infertility treatments. Quality customer service will be the deciding factor for patients when selecting a doctor.

The customer service skills taught can be embedded mentally with the practice of role playing. This gives the staff confidence to handle the different scenarios within the medical office. Role playing allows staff members to understand and practice the delivery of great customer service to target female consumers and male consumers. Each transaction with the patient is an opportunity to extend customer service care thats responsive to customers' needs.

Physicians often think that promotional pricing is the best way to attract new patients. What happens after that deal is gone? Smart practices bring out their best in customer service care from beginning to end to bring that patient back time after time. Patients notice, appreciate, and frequent places where they feel welcomed and they will share their experience with friends and family. Word of mouth referrals are a goldmine as new customers are acquired without the physician spending a dime on marketing.

Acumen Research Group reported that 43% of customers abandoned a provider because of a negative experience with a staff member. Physicians sometime overlook the importance of how they treat their employees. If you degrade and disrespect your staff in any manner, then they will indirectly retaliate and treat your patients rudely, says Ms. Tran. Also, low wages and minimal training will reflect the kind of customer service patients receive. Its your medical team that has the most interaction with your patients so youll get what you pay for.

Providing good customer service is a responsibility shared by every member of the medical team. The first step in improving customer service involves learning what customers need and want. Secondly, hire a professional to train the service skills and develop an action plan that implements customer friendly processes.

FDA Warns Doctors About Fake Botox

Los Angeles, CA (PRWEB) January 08, 2013

The Food and Drug Administration issued warning letters (found here: goo.gl/WC3fX) to more than 350 medical practices that bought unapproved and possibly fake Botox from a Canadian supplier. That supplier, Canada Drugs, also trades under the names A+ Health Supplies, Quality Specialty Products, Clinical Care, Bridgewater Medical and QP Medical. The FDA warned in its letter that this unapproved, fake Botox fails to meet U.S. standards for storage, handling and transporting, and the supplies could prove counterfeit or contaminated.

Some medical offices attempt to cut costs by ordering cheaper drugs from Canadian and foreign suppliers, but this practice violates U.S. law. Reached for comment, Simon Ourian, M.D., Medical Director of Epione Beverly Hills, a leading provider of Botox

BalanceME Weight Loss Camps Join Nation's Doctors in Stress Awareness Month

Asheville, NC (PRWEB) April 09, 2013

BalanceME, leading summer weight loss camps for treatment of overweight and obese, joins the nations healthcare professionals in bringing awareness to the negative effects of stress during National Stress Awareness Month.

The American Institute of Stress reports that up to 90% of doctors visits are related to stress. During stressful situations the body releases a stress hormone called cortisol. Prolonged overexposure to cortisol increases the risk of heart disease, depression, and a variety of health related illnesses including obesity, An inability to manage stress successfully also leads to low motivation, in turn creating low activity lifestyles.

At BalanceME summer weight loss camps campers lower their stress by learning healthy coping skills in individual and group counseling sessions. These counseling sessions allow campers to address the emotional components that often accompany obesity while also building camper confidence and motivation. By pairing counseling with healthy eating and exercise, BalanceME campers lose weight and improve their overall health as well, thereby lowering some of the stress placed on their bodies.

Many of our campers suffer from depression and a variety of emotional challenges that are linked to numerous life stressors and manifest through weight gain, say John Gordon, BalanceME CEO. Being able to teach our campers healthy coping skills for stress give them tools for the rest of their lives, improving their overall health and quality of life.

BalanceME teaches campers to manage stress effectively by supplementing unhealthy coping skills like overeating or excessive sleeping with healthy coping skills like exercise, talking with a friend, and new interests and hobbies. BalanceME also uses an approach called Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) which allows campers to connect their thoughts with their behaviors. These skills are effective for campers beyond their time at summer weight loss camp and useful for stress management in school life, school, family life, and adulthood.

We are proud to support Stress Awareness Month by helping our campers learn lifelong copying skills, continued Mr. Gordon, Combined with our camper's weight loss, these coping skills form a powerful combination for dealing with stress.

Doctors Health Press Issues a Statement on Study: Community Gardening May be an Effective Weight Loss Method

Boston, MA (PRWEB) May 02, 2013

Doctors Health Press, a division of Lombardi Publishing Corporation and publisher of various natural health newsletters, books, and reports, including the popular online Doctors Health Press e-Bulletin, recently issued a statement commenting on a new study finding that community gardening may be an effective method for weight loss.

As Doctors Health Press e-Bulletin notes, in recent years, community gardening has become increasingly popular in urban areas. Basically, members of a community start their own vegetable garden on a rooftop or an available plot of land. Whats interesting about this trend is that its participants tend to have lower body mass indices (BMIs) and are far less likely to be obese than the rest of the community. BMI is a measure that represents the relationship between a persons height and weight; a BMI of 25 or over indicates an overweight individual, while 18.524.9 indicates normal weight.

As the e-newsletter article This Springtime Activity Could Bring Your Weight Down reports, community gardeners in Salt Lake City, Utah, took part in a study examining how ones hobby impacted his or her weight. A total of 200 participants were studied and compared to neighbors, spouses, and siblings. This cross-section is important to consider for a few reasons:

People who live in the same community have access to the same things, particularly food
