Members and guests of the NAPW Los Angeles, CA Local Chapter gathered on March 20th for a professional networking meeting.
The group of professional women heard expert tips and advice about time management from Chapter member Ruth Klein, Creative Brand Strategist and Productivity Coach at The Marketing/Time Source.
Ruth Garcia-Corrales, Los Angeles Local Chapter President, kicked off the dinner meeting by welcoming a number of new members along with other members and guests.
All of the women had the opportunity to introduce themselves and tell the group more about their careers.
The group of professional women represented so many different professions and businesses, said the Chapter President.
We then followed with the Chapters routine roundtable individual introductions.
Chapter Member Ruth Klein, MS, Creative Brand Strategist and Productivity Coach for her business The Marketing/Time Source, was the evenings guest speaker. In her presentation, Ms. Klein focused on how members and guests can achieve better time management and productivity.
Eighty percent of stress is time-induced. What is your biggest drainer? What is your biggest time energizer? Ms. Klein asked the group of professional women as she began her presentation.
Ruth urged those with large time drains to employ another person to take over those duties, said the Chapter President. She told us, Rather than do it yourself, hire someone; delegate!
Ms. Klein listed several such individuals who assisted her on occasion to relieve her of duties that freed her to do her own work: that which energized her. She quoted the 18th century German writer Goethe: . . .Plans: that the moment one commits oneself Providence moves too.
The following are highlights of from Ms. Kleins presentation and the advice she gave to members and guests:
Time tips depend on a shift from I cant-thinking to the belief that you can delegate.
Rule of Two: Prioritize the two most important things, i.e., calls, emails, or things to do.
Divide into parts: One hour of focused time, no calls or other interruptions.
The guest speaker reviewed a number of decision styles including the fence-sitter: One who cant decide. The belief behind this pattern may be feelings of not wanting to make a mistake, not look dumb, and other self-limiting beliefs.
Ms. Klein then spoke about a number of branding archetypes:
Alchemist: Important to make a difference in the world and is very creativeloves the words synchronicity and magic.
Ruler: One who gets things done and helps others to stay focused.
Nurturer: Cares about her clients and needs to be conscious of healthy boundaries.
Ruth also suggested that first thing each day in quiet, we just write our minds outpouring no formality, said the Chapter President.
She called this Morning Papers and said it helps with creativity and problem-solving.
Ms. Klein concluded her presentation by providing members and guests with a number of internet resources for finding assistants.
The Chapter President followed the guest speakers presentation with a number of announcements. She also encouraged the group of professional women to follow the group's meetings and activities on their Chapter and Facebook Pages.
The Los Angeles Chapter now has 50 members signed onto our Facebook Page, giving us the privilege of marketing ourselves and our endeavors, she said.
Other announcements included: the 2013 National Networking Conference in New York, held on April 26th. Guest speakers scheduled to appear include: Martha Stewart and Arianna Huffington.
Dr. Hess will present a workshop on Bullying and the Special Needs Child on April 10th.
Ruth Garcia-Corrales discussed a free educational program to all. She told members and guests that they can go online and enroll in elite university courses through edX. The educational programs are presented through a joint agreement between Harvard, Berkeley, and MIT. Ruth is currently enrolled in a statistics course through this group.
Under auspices of Heal the Bay, in Santa Monica, there is a fundraising event to promote the Santa Monica Aquarium, to be held on May 16th at the Jonathan Beach Club at 5:00pm.
The next Chapter meeting is scheduled for April 17th, from 8:00 to 10:00am. The meeting topic will be Spring Ideas for Fashion and Decoration. The Chapter President told the group to contact her if they were interested in participating as a speaker at an upcoming Chapter meeting. The problems that can plague modern women's faces are numerous. From signs of aging to hyperpigmentation to chronic dehydration to acne, dermatological concerns often pose ongoing beauty challenges for sufferers; however, beautiful, healthy skin is possible for all women. By adopting healthy skin care regimens and committing themselves to completing them daily, women can greatly improve the texture and tone of their skin and minimize imperfections. The latest article by the beauty blog BeautyResearch.com Five Steps for Better Skin discusses the essential steps that must be present in a skin care regimen to promote a healthy complexion.
Impurities are a major contributor to many dermatological concerns. Excess sebum can clog the pores and give rise to acne blemishes or cause the pores to stretch. Irritants can leave the skin inflamed and red. Environmental pollutants that contain free radicals can damage the skin cells and worsen fine lines and wrinkles. What can a woman do to limit the effects of impurities? What skin care products purify the complexion without over-drying the skin? To find out, visit BeautyResearch.com or click

The acid-base balance of the complexion plays a large role in the health of the skin. When this natural pH balance becomes disturbed, the skin can become overly dry or excessively oil. Many skin care problems from acne blemishes to hypersensitivity can be traced back to the pH of the complexion, but many women fail to realize the importance of keeping their skin balanced. Is it possible to restore the skin to its ideal pH, and if so, how? What products are recommended for those concerned about acidic or alkaline skin? To find out, visit BeautyResearch.com or click

While some dermatological needs are universal, others are unique to individual complexions. Just as a patient must take a regimen of specific medicines to fight multiple medical conditions and illnesses, to have truly healthy skin, women must customize their skin care routines to address their specific dermatological concerns. In what ways can a woman personalize her skin care regimen? What types of products are the best for addressing problems like fine lines, skin discoloration and collagen loss? Moisture is essential to the health of every complexion. Without proper hydration, the complexion becomes more prone to wrinkling and can develop symptoms like flaking and redness. Every minute of the day, the effects of evaporation steal moisture from the skin tissue, making skin dehydration a common problem among women of all skin types. How can a woman replenish her skin's natural supply of moisture? When is the best time during a daily skin care regimen to address the complexion's moisture needs? In a recent interview, Gail Bowman, owner of Health Food Emporium, said Everyone is interested in doing better for the new year. But the biggest gift you can give yourself is better health. I have 5 top Resolutions that can help people to get better health for themselves and their families this year.
Here are Ms Bowmans 5 top Resolutions for 2013:
1. Work on losing weight. There is a lot of new research out there to help with losing weight. Researchers have know for several years that Fucoxanthin, the main ingredient in Garden of Lifes Fucothin, aids weight loss. According to a study done in 2007, Japanese researchers found that fucoxanthin induced between 10 and 12 pounds more weight loss compared with placebo over a 16-week period in women who consumed 1,800 calories per day. This study also showed beneficial reductions in visceral body fat. Excess amounts of visceral body fat are linked to insulin resistance, type 2 diabetes, and cardiovascular disease.
In addition, according to Gail Bowman, You cant depend on a weight loss supplement alone, a high protein, low carb, low calorie diet in addition to regular exercise will help you on your way to a new, slimmer you this year.
2. Eat better quality, more nutritious foods. In a series of articles on the dangers of fast foods, Dr Mercola explains that fast food, or junk foods, that are so common in our lives today, actually can cause neurological problems, diabetes and obesity in our children! Dr Don Colbert even shows us that there are many easy, fast diet foods that are dangerously high in chemicals and sugar!
So what to do? Ms Bowman says,Look for low sugar, low carb foods made entirely of foods that you can recognize. If you are reading a label and you dont recognize a food, it probably isnt food! Go Organic and grass fed with no added hormones or antibiotics whenever you can. This takes determination, and true dedication, but making fresh veggies the majority of your familys meal, instead of the side dish, actually costs less than buying fast food.
3. Avoid Toxins in your foods and in your environment. Dr Don Colbert recently wrote, here are several steps you can take to decrease the amount of toxins entering your body. Begin by learning which products are safer for your skin and hair care routine. According to Ms Bowman, you can start by educating yourself about the toxins in your household cleaners, skin and hair care products, and in normal household items like fluorescent light bulbs.
4. Do some sort of exercise every day. In a recent article, John Abdo, a Fitness Trainer, wrote, There have been studies showing that regular exercise over long periods of time reduces the risk of heart attacks, improves lung function, lowers blood glucose, cholesterol, and triglyceride levels, and improves muscle and bone strength with advancing age. These studies suggest that exercise can extend lifespan...
Ms Bowman says, Exercise doesnt have to mean a gym membership. It just means being in motion. So, exercise is cleaning the house, walking, biking, swimming, playing with the grandkids, gardening, etc. Try to be moving in a way that gets your heart rate up and gets you out of your usual rut, for at least 1 hour every day.
5. Reduce your stress. In a recent article, Dr Mercola said, One of the most common problems I hear from patients is that they felt fatigued, anxious or depressed. And they often have trouble sleeping -- even though they are exhausted.
According to Ms Bowman, almost all of us are over stressed these days, but we can consciously make choices that will reduce our stress. She says, Eat healthy meals and feed your body so you can fight off the effects of stress; Consider taking herbal supplements that help your body to respond in a healthy way to cortisol; get exercise every day; find a job that is less stressful or that gives you more feelings of achievement; and set out to reduce your debt load this year, not increase it as so many of us tend to do.
By choosing to improve our lifestyle, our diet and our financial position, we can make 2013 the 'best of years'. This year, make and keep resolutions that will improve your life by improving your health.

Critical care patients are the hospitals most vulnerable patients and due to the severity of their illness these patients are more susceptible to hospital acquired infections (HAIs). According to the World Health Organization, 30% of intensive care unit (ICU) patients will be affected by an HAI. Properly bathing ICU patients is an important component of reducing these HAIs and a new advanced skin cleansing system, Cleanse Care, can help reduce these dangerous infections.
Cleanse Care Advanced Formula Skin Care System was created by a trauma surgeon as an alternative to traditional patient bathing and skin cleaning methods. When a patients skin is broken or open due to abrasions, surgery sites or burns, it is more vulnerable to infection.
Properly cleaning the intact or broken skin, while avoiding further injury or infection to the area, is imperative. The patent-pending Cleanse Care formula utilizes an advanced cleaning technology that not only cleans the surface of the skin, but also opens up the skins pores and hair follicles where bacteria and contaminants typically settle, allowing the specialized cleaning agents to provide a better, more refreshing clean feeling for patients. In addition, the Cleanse Care formula provides increased efficacy and duration of action over other self-contained formulas currently available to healthcare providers or basin bathing.
Hospitals have long used basin bathing as the standard of care for patient cleansing. However, recent studies have shown significant risk associated with this practice. The basins themselves are a breeding ground for bacteria, says Roger Huckfeldt, MD and inventor of Cleanse Care. Cleaning a patient with a sponge or cloth dipped in a contaminated basin is more likely to harm the patient by spreading the bacteria rather than removing it.
The 8-pack Cleanse Care Waterless Bathing System is designed to replace basin baths in ICUs, hospitals, nursing homes and long-term care facilities or anywhere patients are not able to take a traditional bath or shower. The durable, pre-moistened cloths provide effective skin hygiene for the entire body, and because Cleanse Care cloths are disposable, there is less risk of spreading bacteria.
Cleanse Cares Specialty Care 2-pack is specifically designed for use on sensitive skin, allowing the cloths to be used near the groin and perineum without risk of irritation or dryness, making it an effective tool at fighting common ICU acquired infections, such as catheter-associated urinary tract infections(CAUTI).
Patient bathing is an important part of the care process and provides the best means for skin healing, says Huckfeldt.
Roger Huckfeldt, MD, FACS
Dr. Huckfeldt is a board certified general and critical care surgeon with twenty years experience in a trauma and burn care practice. Dr. Huckfeldt has been involved in the development of products designed to enhance skin care throughout his career, and is well known for his medical research towards the science and mechanism of wound healing.

A recent report form Science daily informs readers that weight loss, and more specifically, healthy long-term dietary changes can not only affect body weight, but actually alter the body genetically as well. According to a study in Cell Press, subjects who lost significant amounts of weight not only experienced changes in body fat content, but also experienced a change in the way their body burns fat at a genetic level, improving its ability to store sugars properly and burn fat. This genetic change offers hope to those who have struggled with obesity, increasing the bodys ability to lose weight fast and maintain results for long-term improved health.
In order to provide fast weight loss, now believed to permanently alter the way the body burns fat and stores sugars, Diet Doc offers prescription hCG diet plans, capable of producing weight loss of over one pound per day. Diet Doc has worked tirelessly to advance and improve the original, controversial hCG diet protocol discovered in 1954. Over the last decade, the company has managed to create the most modernized, modified, and healthy version of the hCG diet plan in the nation, allowing patients higher caloric intake, increased nutrition during dieting, and unlimited clinical support available six days per week.
A Diet Doc hCG diet plan consists of an initial clinical evaluation, conducted with expert weight loss physicians via telephone or Skype. After this evaluation, the companys in-house physicians and nutritionists design a customized nutrition and prescription hCG treatment plan for each individual patient, with concern for the patients dietary and nutritional needs, health history and current health considerations, and proper supplementation to balance metabolism and prevent possible side effects during dieting. The finished product is a custom tailored and individualized hCG diet plan based on all relevant patient factors such as health, age, gender, and personal preferences. Diet Docs hCG diet plans have proven successful in over 98% of patients, providing fast weight loss free from harmful side effects and positively distinguishing its self from the outdated, risky, and controversial original Simeons hCG diet.
Subsequent to an extensive medical evaluation and doctor consultation, hCG will be prescribed to be used in conjunction with a patient specific diet plan developed by certified nutritionists. Available in injectable solution, sublingual tablets and oral drops, the most preferred method of prescription hCG delivery is injectable solution due to its ability to quickly deliver medication to the bloodstream, as well as being fortified with Vitamin B12, offering dieters an additional source of energy. Regardless of the method of delivery, dieters can anticipate fast weight loss without suffering hunger pangs or cravings. hCG naturally triggers the hypothalamus to release stored fat into the bloodstream to be easily burned for energy, as well as naturally suppresses the appetite and prevents muscle loss during dieting. Patients following the guidelines of Diet docs prescription hCG diet plans are excitedly boasting a loss of up to one pound per day of unwanted, unhealthy and embarrassing excess fat.
By combining the expertise and knowledge of specially trained fast weight loss doctors, nurses and nutritionists, creating personalized hCG diet plans specific to each patients dietary and nutritional needs, providing dieters with pure prescription strength hCG, and supervising each patients diet journey, Diet Doc has helped thousands lose weight safely and successfully. Now with new studies revealing the snowball effect that weight loss can have on a person, Diet Doc offers a simple, permanent solution for those struggling with obesity.

Women in the United States spend roughly $ 7 billion per year on cosmetics, including eye makeup, foundation, concealer, powder, blush and lip color products. Studies from Johns Hopkins University reveal a direct correlation between those who are carrying excessive weight and their inability to get adequate sleep. These same studies suggest that for many, simply losing weight can naturally relieve many symptoms.
Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine found that improvement in sleep quality was significantly associated with overall weight loss, especially belly fat. In this six month study dated November 6th, 2012, researchers monitored 77 participants who were diabetic or pre-diabetic, all of whom were overweight or obese. "One group went on a weight-loss diet and had supervised exercise training, while the other group only had the diet intervention. A total of 55 participants completed all phases of the study." Each participant was then required to complete sleep studies, which revealed that body weight, especially in the stomach area is directly linked to sleep loss. The report further states that, "The key ingredient for improved sleep quality from our study was a reduction in overall body fat, and, in particular belly fat, which was true no matter the age or gender of the participants or whether the weight loss came from diet alone or diet plus exercise."
With an emphasis on not just better sleep, but improved overall health, Diet Doc has developed medically supervised hCG diet plans capable of producing fast weight loss naturally and safely, without invasive procedures, complicated nutrition plans, or frozen foods with point systems. By providing this fast weight loss, the company is capable of also producing better sleep for patients struggling with obesity related sleep apnea or deprivation. Getting better sleep is shown to produce a host of desirable effects in the body, ranging from improved memory, to curbing inflammation linked to heart disease, stroke, diabetes, arthritis, and premature aging.
Recent in-house surveys conducted by Diet Doc reveal just how successful the company has been at achieving astounding results, averaging over one pound of fat loss per day in over 97% of their patients. Diet Doc's hCG diet plans are increasing mobility, decreasing obesity related illness, and equally importantly, giving patients better sleep through manageable and fast weight loss. The weight typically lost is trapped.
Diet Doc unveils their improved hCG diet plans that are capable of producing fast weight loss just in time for dieters to fit comfortably and confidently into beachwear this season. Benefiting from decades of scientific research, the professional weight loss experts at Diet Doc have successfully developed the nations leading medically supervised prescription hCG diet plans, now improved to more closely tailor results to each patient and thoughtfully designed to allow patients to lose excess fat, both rapidly and safely for a great summer beach body.
Diet Doc has tirelessly worked to improve upon the original, outdated hCG diet. Dr. A.T.W. Simeons'1950s version of the hCG diet limited the dieters caloric intake to 500 calories per day. While patients were successful in weight loss, the low calorie diet was not sufficient to sustain the body and posed significant health risks. Diet Doc has made improvements and modifications to the original hCG diet by allowing the patient to consume more than double the daily caloric intake than that of the original diet, while also allowing the patient to incorporate a wider range of delicious and healthy food choices during dieting. The company continues to add benefit to the diet plans by providing 100% pure prescription grade hCG, typically administered once daily, that is manufactured in FDA approved pharmacies in the United States. This potent combination has helped thousands of Americans successfully and safely lose unwanted and unhealthy excess fat, with 97% of clients boasting results of more than a pound per day with no major side effects.
Subsequent to a detailed, yet simple medical evaluation, personalized diet plans are created by certified nutritionists for each patient. These medically designed and supervised plans can be rendered via Skype or telephone from the comfort of the patient's own home. Each plan is individually tailored in order to achieve optimal weight loss based on each patient's lifestyle, medical history and nutritional needs. Available to Diet Doc clients by prescription only, hCG is available in three easy to use varieties: injectable solution, sublingual tablets and oral hCG drops. Because of the convenience of painless injectable hCG solution, coupled with its ability to produce more rapid weight loss while naturally suppressing the appetite and preventing muscle loss during dieting, this method of hCG delivery continues to be the most popular and successful among patients.
Prescription hCG, combined with Diet Docs customized diet plans signals the hypothalamus to target, release and burn stored and trapped fat into the bloodstream. The body then uses this fat as its primary source of energy. This process is called ketosis, and is the most efficient way to lose weight fast. Years of stored fat are typically trapped in the most difficult to lose areas of the body, such as the belly, underarms, hips and thighs. By following the prescription hCG diet plan guidelines, patients are noticing the loss of pounds and inches in these most stubborn and difficult to lose areas. Dieters are labeling Diet Docs prescription hCG diet plans the best method of losing excess weight and are boasting a loss of a pound or more per day without experiencing hunger, cravings, or energy loss. In fact, because injectable hCG solution is enhanced with energy-boosting Vitamin B12, most patients are reporting an increase in energy while dieting.
Dieters are never alone during the journey to enjoy a healthier and more active lifestyle by losing excess weight. In the 1950s, Dr. A.T. W. Simeons developed the original hCG diet plans that combined low doses of hCG, a hormone that is found in the developing placenta of pregnant women, with very low calorie diets. Patients were successful in losing weight; however, the low caloric intake posed significant health risks to the patient. Benefiting from years of research, Diet Doc has newly modified Simeons' original hCG diet plans, refined the guidelines and now offers the most advanced, fully comprehensive prescription hCG diet plans on today's market.
Subsequent to the satisfactory completion of a detailed, yet quite simple, medical evaluation, followed by an in-house doctor consultation, and based on this information, certified nutritionists will develop diet plans that are individual to each patient. These nutrient-rich diets are high in protein and low in carbohydrates with an allowable caloric intake; now more than double that of the original hCG diet plans, while also allowing the dieter to incorporate a wider range of healthy and nutritious food choices. No two plans are identical, with plans created for those that have struggled to lose that difficult last 10 pounds to those that must lose 100 pounds or more. Each diet is designed with comfort and ease of use in mind and compatible to each patient's lifestyle and medical conditions.
hCG will be prescribed, typically administered once daily, to be used in conjunction with the personalized diet plans. This powerful combo triggers safe and fast weight loss by signaling the brain to target stored fat reserves, releasing this trapped fat into the bloodstream. The body will then call upon these reserves to be burned as fuel when energy is required. This trapped fat is typically stored in the most difficult and stubborn areas of the body, such as the underarms, hips, thighs and belly. Patients will quickly notice the loss of pounds and inches from these areas.
Each patient's journey to freedom from excess weight is medically supervised and progress is monitored with constant communication to assure the most successful and effective weight loss experience. Consultation, support, guidance and encouragement are free and unlimited with the compassionate and dedicated fast weight loss staff available Monday through Saturday via phone or email.
