Los Angeles Thyroid Surgeon Discusses New Approach To Minimize Neck Scarring During A Partial Or Full Thyroidectomy

Beverly Hills, CA (PRWEB) May 09, 2013

World-renowned thyroid surgeon Dr. Babak Larian, director of the CENTER for Advanced Head & Neck Surgery in Los Angeles, knows that patients are commonly concerned with not only undergoing a procedure to remove a cancerous thyroid gland, but also the after effects and scarring that are associated with the surgery. To ensure optimal patient satisfaction, Dr. Larian is introducing a new technique to minimize scarring that can occur on the neck after thyroid removal. According to Dr. Larian, the scarring that his patients experience as a result of a minimally invasive thyroidectomy is extremely nominal and in some cases, non-existent.

Whenever I perform a minimally invasive thyroidectomy for a patient, Im not only concerned with successfully removing their tumor, but Im also very conscious of leaving them with the least noticeable scar possible, said world-renowned thyroid surgeon Dr. Larian. This is a big area of concern for almost every patient.

To reduce scarring after head and neck surgery, expert California thyroid surgeon Dr. Larian trims away a tiny area of excess skin outlining the incision site once the thyroid gland or tumor has been removed but before closing the opening. After years of performing the routine procedure for hundreds of patients, Dr. Larian believes that one of the main culprits of scarring after thyroid surgery is due to the amount of trauma that the skin experiences at the incision site.

Before I close an incision for a patient after thyroid surgery, I cut away a very small amount of skin near the opening. Because this allows me to suture together new skin that hasnt experienced any pulling, poking, or trauma for an extended period of time, the scar is greatly reduced and the incision heals much better, said expert thyroid surgeon in California Dr. Larian.

Dr. Babak Larian is a highly regarded head & neck surgeon who places an extreme emphasis on providing his patients with the best treatments available and has great experience with minimally invasive thyroid and parathyroid procedures. Upon completion of his medical degree at the prestigious University of CaliforniaIrvine Medical School, Dr. Larian completed a six-year residency program in otolaryngology at UCLA. Dr. Larian currently holds the acclaimed position of Chief of Head & Neck Surgery at Cedars-Sinai Hospital in Los Angeles.

Garden City, NY (PRWEB) May 14, 2013

Members and guests of the NAPW Los Angeles, CA Local Chapter gathered on March 20th for a professional networking meeting.

The group of professional women heard expert tips and advice about time management from Chapter member Ruth Klein, Creative Brand Strategist and Productivity Coach at The Marketing/Time Source.

Ruth Garcia-Corrales, Los Angeles Local Chapter President, kicked off the dinner meeting by welcoming a number of new members along with other members and guests.

All of the women had the opportunity to introduce themselves and tell the group more about their careers.

The group of professional women represented so many different professions and businesses, said the Chapter President.

We then followed with the Chapters routine roundtable individual introductions.

Chapter Member Ruth Klein, MS, Creative Brand Strategist and Productivity Coach for her business The Marketing/Time Source, was the evenings guest speaker. In her presentation, Ms. Klein focused on how members and guests can achieve better time management and productivity.

Eighty percent of stress is time-induced. What is your biggest drainer? What is your biggest time energizer? Ms. Klein asked the group of professional women as she began her presentation.

Ruth urged those with large time drains to employ another person to take over those duties, said the Chapter President. She told us, Rather than do it yourself, hire someone; delegate!

Ms. Klein listed several such individuals who assisted her on occasion to relieve her of duties that freed her to do her own work: that which energized her. She quoted the 18th century German writer Goethe: . . .Plans: that the moment one commits oneself Providence moves too.

The following are highlights of from Ms. Kleins presentation and the advice she gave to members and guests:

Time tips depend on a shift from I cant-thinking to the belief that you can delegate.

Rule of Two: Prioritize the two most important things, i.e., calls, emails, or things to do.

Divide into parts: One hour of focused time, no calls or other interruptions.

The guest speaker reviewed a number of decision styles including the fence-sitter: One who cant decide. The belief behind this pattern may be feelings of not wanting to make a mistake, not look dumb, and other self-limiting beliefs.

Ms. Klein then spoke about a number of branding archetypes:

Alchemist: Important to make a difference in the world and is very creativeloves the words synchronicity and magic.

Ruler: One who gets things done and helps others to stay focused.

Nurturer: Cares about her clients and needs to be conscious of healthy boundaries.

Ruth also suggested that first thing each day in quiet, we just write our minds outpouring no formality, said the Chapter President.

She called this Morning Papers and said it helps with creativity and problem-solving.

Ms. Klein concluded her presentation by providing members and guests with a number of internet resources for finding assistants.

The Chapter President followed the guest speakers presentation with a number of announcements. She also encouraged the group of professional women to follow the group's meetings and activities on their Chapter and Facebook Pages.

The Los Angeles Chapter now has 50 members signed onto our Facebook Page, giving us the privilege of marketing ourselves and our endeavors, she said.

The educational programs are presented through a joint agreement between Harvard, Berkeley, and MIT. Ruth is currently enrolled in a statistics course through this group.

Under auspices of Heal the Bay, in Santa Monica, there is a fundraising event to promote the Santa Monica Aquarium, to be held on May 16th at the Jonathan Beach Club at 5:00pm.

The next Chapter meeting is scheduled for April 17th, from 8:00 to 10:00am. The meeting topic will be Spring Ideas for Fashion and Decoration. According to the County of Los Angeles Public Health, obesity rates in L.A. increased to almost 24 percent in 2011 (the last published report), a 74 percent increase since 1997. As the obesity epidemic continues to sweep the country, Diet-to-Go encourages people to adopt a common-sense approach to eating healthy and losing weight.

Many people in todays fast-paced, hectic world dont know what healthy eating is, said Davis. There are so many easy food choices that are just unhealthy. Our meals help customers lose weight while teaching them the basics of balanced nutrition and reasonable portion sizes. Its healthy eating made easy.

Diet-to-Go will continue building relationships with health clubs throughout the Los Angeles area in an effort to make its healthy meal plan service convenient to as many L.A. residents as possible.

John Waszak, owner at The Gym at Hayden, said he is pleased Diet-to-Go club members and members of the community will be able to use the fresh pick-up service through The Gym.

Its all about getting the point across that adopting a healthier lifestyle doesnt have to be extreme, but rather people need to control their portion-size, eat more nutritionally balanced meals and exercise a bit, he said. Diet-to-Go meal plans definitely support this message.
