The group of professional women heard expert tips and advice about time management from Chapter member Ruth Klein, Creative Brand Strategist and Productivity Coach at The Marketing/Time Source.

Ruth Garcia-Corrales, Los Angeles Local Chapter President, kicked off the dinner meeting by welcoming a number of new members along with other members and guests.

All of the women had the opportunity to introduce themselves and tell the group more about their careers.

The group of professional women represented so many different professions and businesses, said the Chapter President.

We then followed with the Chapters routine roundtable individual introductions.

Chapter Member Ruth Klein, MS, Creative Brand Strategist and Productivity Coach for her business The Marketing/Time Source, was the evenings guest speaker. In her presentation, Ms. Klein focused on how members and guests can achieve better time management and productivity.

Eighty percent of stress is time-induced. What is your biggest drainer? What is your biggest time energizer? Ms. Klein asked the group of professional women as she began her presentation.

Ruth urged those with large time drains to employ another person to take over those duties, said the Chapter President. She told us, Rather than do it yourself, hire someone; delegate!

Ms. Klein listed several such individuals who assisted her on occasion to relieve her of duties that freed her to do her own work: that which energized her. She quoted the 18th century German writer Goethe: . . .Plans: that the moment one commits oneself Providence moves too.

The following are highlights of from Ms. Kleins presentation and the advice she gave to members and guests:

Time tips depend on a shift from I cant-thinking to the belief that you can delegate.

Rule of Two: Prioritize the two most important things, i.e., calls, emails, or things to do.

Divide into parts: One hour of focused time, no calls or other interruptions.

The guest speaker reviewed a number of decision styles including the fence-sitter: One who cant decide. The belief behind this pattern may be feelings of not wanting to make a mistake, not look dumb, and other self-limiting beliefs.

Ms. Klein then spoke about a number of branding archetypes:

Alchemist: Important to make a difference in the world and is very creativeloves the words synchronicity and magic.

Ruler: One who gets things done and helps others to stay focused.

Nurturer: Cares about her clients and needs to be conscious of healthy boundaries.

Ruth also suggested that first thing each day in quiet, we just write our minds outpouring no formality, said the Chapter President.

She called this Morning Papers and said it helps with creativity and problem-solving.

Ms. Klein concluded her presentation by providing members and guests with a number of internet resources for finding assistants.

The Chapter President followed the guest speakers presentation with a number of announcements. She also encouraged the group of professional women to follow the group's meetings and activities on their Chapter and Facebook Pages.

The Los Angeles Chapter now has 50 members signed onto our Facebook Page, giving us the privilege of marketing ourselves and our endeavors, she said.

Other announcements included: the 2013 National Networking Conference in New York, held on April 26th. Guest speakers scheduled to appear include: Martha Stewart and Arianna Huffington.

NAPW Washington, DC Local Chapter Announced Four Finalists in Girl on Fire Competition at May Networking Meeting

Garden City, NY (PRWEB) May 29, 2013

Members and guests of the NAPW Washington, DC Local Chapter gathered on May 16 for a professional networking meeting at Howard University.

Four members were chosen from a pool of exceptional applicants to advance to the next level in the Chapters Girl on Fire competition.

The contest, which will become an annual competition for the Washington, DC Chapter, was designed to encourage members to strategically examine their business, career and personal goals.

Since taking office in January 2013, one of my primary goals has been to encourage and inspire women to take their business, career and personal goals to the next level, said Washington, DC Chapter President Deborah Leaner.

Over the last few months, the Chapter has been actively working towards that goal. At the March meeting, three members were given the opportunity to showcase their businesses before the members. At the April meeting, members conducted a roundtable discussion about famous women and their legacies. The discussion concluded with the participants focusing on the characteristics of a woman or women in their lives who have or had the most impact in their lives and what they hope their legacy will be.

Also at the April meeting, Chapter President Deborah Leaner shared the final details of the Girl on Fire award to be given at the December 2013 Chapter meeting. All members were encouraged to apply by completing the on-line application.

The application for the Girl on Fire contest was designed to encourage individuals to strategically examine their business, career and personal goals, said President Leaner.

So even if an individual was not selected to go to the next level of the competition, she still had a plan to help her focus on the steps needed to move to the next level.

At the Washington, DC Chapter networking meeting in May, members who had completed the

Girl on Fire application were selected by the Chapter Review Committee to move to the next level. They then were given the opportunity to pitch their businesses to the panel of judges.

The competition was fierce. Seven finalists were chosen to compete before the panel. (A total of eight individuals were selected to present to the panel, however, one competitor withdrew the day of the event.)

The panel of contest judges consisted of four renowned industry leaders: a self-made local millionaire, a banking executive, an established female entrepreneur, and a psychologist, said President Deborah Leaner. Four candidates were ultimately chosen to move to the next level in the Girl on Fire competition.

The candidates first completed a detailed application process that was submitted to the Chapter Review Committee. After reviewing the applications, the Review Committee selected seven women to move to the next level. Each candidate was given 12 minutes to pitch her business to a panel of four judges.

All of the candidates came fully prepared to pitch their business. The judges asked questions about business plans, financing, what does this business do for the community and why did you start the business, said President Leaner. The candidates all displayed a passion for their business, which was demonstrated as they responded to the panel of judges. The judges offered sage advice and resources to each candidate.

After pitching their company to the panel of judges, the judges ranked the candidates. The judges indicated it was a really tough decision. All of the candidates were passionate about their businesses and possess potential. However, after much deliberation, the panel of judges was able to select four candidates to move to the next level.

The four members selected to move on to the next level in the Girl on Fire contest were Sharron Dansby, Author of Journey through the Furnace; Bettina Hodges, Bedroom Secrets Skin Care; Ritzya, The E.L.F. diet; and Julia iLiadia, Fashion Stylist and Wardrobe Consultant.

The judges shared how they wished all of the women could have been selected to move to the next level because everyone had done an excellent job of presenting their company and accomplishments, and demonstrating how winning the Girl on Fire competition would help them take their company to the next level, said Chapter President Deborah Leaner.

The four candidates will now participate in a separate session with each of the judges who will glean more directed information about how the candidate plans on taking her business to the next level. Each candidate with develop an action plan with milestones and activities to complete over the next six months. The individual who shows the most dedication in completing her action plan will be crowned Girl on Fire at the December 2013 Chapter meeting.

Over the next few months, the four finalists will provide updates on their progress and lessons learned at the monthly Washington, DC meetings.

NAPW Washington, DC Local Chapter President said, It is the plan of the DC Chapter to make the Girl on Fire a yearly event. Each of the candidates who submitted applications indicated how helpful and motivating the application process was. They said it made them think strategically about their business goals. Those members who did not apply expressed the same sentiments.

One member who did not apply but downloaded the application stated, The application really made me think about what my business goals are and how I really need to put some more work and thought into my business plan.

The Chapter President reminded members and guests to check the Washington, DC Chapter Page on napw.com for the candidates progress reports.

NAPW Hudson County, NJ Chapter Discussed Exciting, Upcoming Charitable/Networking Events Planned for 2012-2013

Garden City, NY (PRWEB) November 20, 2012

Members and guests of the NAPW Hudson County, NJ Local Chapter gathered on October 26th for a professional networking meeting. The group of professional women had plenty to discuss since the Chapter has a number of exciting charitable and networking events planned for 2012 through 2013. From feeding the homeless this Thanksgiving to holding its second annual Womens Networking Brunch on June 8th, the Chapter meeting was brimming with exciting news and events.

Before formerly starting the meeting, members and guests had refreshments and networked to build on how they could help one another. NAPW Hudson County, NJ Local Chapter President LaTrenda Ross then kicked off the event by enthusiastically welcoming the attendees, who included one new member RoseAnn Purdy and two new guests Sazzn Landa and Lori Wilson. After reading aloud the Chapters Mission Statement, LaTrenda addressed the crowd.

The NAPW Hudson County Chapter is a shining example of women working together for their Chapter, its members, guests, and the community, she said. We are thriving and doing tremendously and we are enthusiastic about working not only on our events this year but on our 2013 projects, as well!

Before a discussion ensued about upcoming events, The Chapter President announced the need to fill three Chapter Board positions: President and Vice President Event Coordinators; Secretary, and Photographer/Media Relations Specialist.

Chapter members and guests then began to brainstorm and discuss potential projects including an event to be held January 12th, the Hudson County Chapters Beautiful Inside and Out Spa Makeover Day for the Hoboken Homeless Shelter Womens Group.

The planning stages are underway for this charitable endeavor. Delores Daniels, our acting President Events Planner, is hard at work coordinating this event, said LaTrenda.

Members and guests were asked to get involved by donating their unwanted and unused makeup that perhaps they dont need or is the wrong color, and to ask relatives, friends, places they shop, and makeup artists to donate their makeup to give to the women as gifts at this upcoming event.

This past June, the Hudson County, NJ Local Chapter honored four women at its first Womens Networking Brunch. Monique Smith, Owner of the hair salon Monique Techniques, was one of the women honored. Every year, her salon hosts a Thanksgiving Dinner for the Homeless and she asked members and guests for their help in making the event a success. The response from the group was overwhelming; five women signed up to participate. More volunteers are always welcome. The hours are anywhere from 9:00am to 2:00pm, Thursday, November 22nd. This includes setting up and serving dinner.

We also discussed our second Womens Networking Brunch that will be held next year on June 8th. We talked about honoring six rather than four women, said LaTrenda.

The Chapter President said next years event needs a theme and also asked members and guests to suggest names for the honorees.

For our Womens Networking Brunch, we want to honor extraordinary women who are working hard to improve her own life and/or the lives of women, children, and her community, said LaTrenda.

The Chapter is also planning two events in April 2013 including the first-ever Yoga and Mediation Mind, Body, and Soul Member and Guest Day as well as the Chapters 2nd Annual Back to School Backpack Drive.

This year, our Backpack Drive was a huge success and we need to make it bigger by having a goal of collecting 150 backpacks to distribute to two or three nonprofit organizations, said LaTrenda. The backpacks will go to children in Pre-K through eighth grade.

The Chapter President had one more request of the members and guests and wanted to discuss something that had been on her mind. She smiled and asked the women to put on their thinking caps for the possibility to fit one more important event into the Chapters nearly-filled calendar.

I would love to hold a Girls Conference, an event where the Hudson County Chapter could help to empower young girls, said LaTrenda. It doesnt have to be large, just something to get us started with our young women in the community.

As always, the professional women of the Hudson County Chapter have made some remarkable accomplishments and the Chapter President shared with members and guests some exciting news about Chapter member Angela McKnight.

Congratulations to Angela McKnight, Executive Director/Founder of AngelaCARES, Inc., on her one year anniversary, announced LaTrenda.

AngelaCARES, Inc. is a 501(c) (3) nonprofit organization based in Jersey City, NJ and was incorporated October 20th, 2011. AngelaCARES motto is A Passion to Care. The Ability to Help. AngelaCARES, Inc.s vision is to encourage a caring and helpful world and its mission is to serve as an advocate and support system for senior citizens, a support system for senior caregivers, and a mentor to the youth (educating and empowering them to volunteer). It is committed to strengthening communities by enhancing the quality of life through empowering seniors, their caregivers, and the youth. Please visit angelacares.org for more information.

LaTrenda also announced that to show solidarity and promote the Hudson County Chapter, the Chapter is planning to have Chapter T-shirts available to members and guests.

There is nothing like having togetherness to attract members and guests and to let people know about our Chapter and the wonderful things we are doing, said the Chapter President. I am urging all members and guests who would like to purchase a Chapter T-shirt to send in your order to angelamcknight(at)gmail.com, including an extra $ 2.00 to offset the (logo) one-time set up fee.

Prices for the T-shirts, which may be customized with a members name, are as follows and payments will be collected at the next Chapter meeting: $ 25 to create the template (logo) one time set up fee; $ 8 per each T-shirt (includes a T-shirt and the printing of a logo on the shirt); $ 15 per T-shirt (includes a T-shirt, printing of logo, and customized name).

Lastly, the meeting ended with all extending their best wishes to members who were celebrating their birthdays.

How can we end a Hudson County Local Chapter meeting without celebrating birthdays? Happy Birthday to Margaret Laborde and Jeannie Adarraga! said LaTrenda. Our door prize raffle, a $ 20 Visa gift card, was won by no other than Jeannie Adarraga our birthday girl. Congratulations to all!

Members and guests in attendance were Rev. Pamela Loving-Felts, Angela Mcknight, Betty Rentas, Jyoti Nebhnani, Glenda Salley Perkins, Dolores Daniels, Eboney Rouse, Jeannie Adarraga, and Chiffon Abney.
