MDA of Central Florida Announces Annual Muscle Walk Event

ORLANDO, Fla. (PRWEB) March 26, 2013

Over 400 people are registered to support the Muscular Dystrophy Association during the Orlando MDA Muscle Walk to help pay tribute to and raise funds for children and adults served by MDA in the Central Florida area.

"We want to encourage people in the Central Florida area to give back to local families affected by neuromuscular disease," said MDA Executive Director Tara Sullivan. "By supporting the MDA Muscle Walk event on Saturday, March 30, people can make an immediate difference and help raise awareness and funds for research and vital services benefiting families served by the Association."

The third annual Orlando MDA Muscle Walk is scheduled for 9 a.m. on Saturday, March 30 at Lake Lily Park in Maitland. Registration will start at 7:30 a.m. For more information, visit http://www.musclewalkmda.org/orlando2013 or call the local MDA office at (407) 562-2035.

The money raised at this weekend's event will help speed MDA research seeking treatments and cures for muscular dystrophy, ALS and related diseases. Also, it will help MDA provide area children affected by muscle disease with a free summer camp experience at Camp Thunderbird in Apopka; as well as medical and health care services at MDAs clinics at Nemours Children's Hospital in Orlando and Shands Hospital in Gainesville.

Event sponsors include: Nemours Childrens Hospital, Orlando Health, 7-Eleven, Popeyes Louisiana Kitchen, Lowes, Johnson & Johnson, Old Navy, Ocean Potion Sun & Skin Care, Genzyme, Central Mobility & Rehab Equipment, Custom Mobility, the International Association of Fire Fighters, Kids Neuro Care, Carmax, Sir Speedy Longwood, West Orange High School, Hill-Rom and Kohls.

Last year, MDA Muscle Walks nationwide raised more than $ 6.2 million, and more than $ 10 million has been raised since the program started in 2011.
