On April 3, Sara Greenstone, a spokesperson from online beauty supply store NewVo Beauty, issues a response to a Business Courier article revealing many women report having damaged hair.
According to Business Courier, more than half of women in the U.S. report having damaged hair. In a new study conducted by Procter & Gamble, about 57 percent of women in major cities say they have damaged hair. The article says the leading causes of hair damage are combing hair when wet, keeping hair in a ponytail and scalp scratching.
Greenstone says most women care about the way their hair looks, but dont realize the damage endured from styling. Keeping your hair tied back in a ponytail is not healthy because the hair band breaks hair, she says. Its better to keep hair loosely pinned back or tied up with a softer type of hair tie. This could help when reducing breakage.
Though combing through wet hair could be damaging and increase hair loss, Greenstone says heating tools are the real culprits. Hair is healthiest when it air dries, she says. Unfortunately, most women dont want to risk walking out the door with unkempt hair. Constantly blow drying, straightening and curling hair leads to hair thinning, split ends and damaged strands. Always remember to use an iron guard or thermal protection spray to coat the hair before styling.
Greenstone suggests replacing old hair care products with new, sulfate-free, paraben free shampoo and conditioner to avoid damaging hair.
