Health Food Emporium Explains Why A1 Beta Casein in Milk May be Making America Sick

(PRWEB) May 31, 2013

In a recent article, Gail Bowman, owner of Health Food Emporium, wrote, Milk proteins come in two types, whey and casein. Casein comprises about 80% of the total protein in milk, A1 and A2 beta-casein. Hundreds of years ago the majority of cattle were A2, then the genetically mutated A1 strain appeared. The original A2 milk is generally produced in Africa, Asia and France, and also in goats milk. Upwards of 90% of cattle in the US produce A1 Beta Casein.

According to Dr Thomas Cowan in his book, the Devil in the Milk, when A1 Beta Casein is ingested by humans, it produces an opioid that has morphene like effects that apparently play havoc with the human system. Besides causing digestive disorders, emerging evidence is showing A1 beta-casein found in cows milk and an increased risk of developing heart disease and insulin dependent diabetes. It may also aggravate neurological conditions such as autism and schizophrenia.

Spearheading the research into A1 Beta Casein, was New Zealand scientist Dr. Corran McLachlan. McLachlan had spent five years researching A1 beta-casein protein to theorize that it is linked not only to heart disease, but also to Type 1 diabetes, autism, and schizophrenia. If you are interested more in this science, the book is called The Devil in the Milk by Dr. Thomas Cowan.

Dr. Murray Laugesen and Professor Bob Elliot conducted a similar study, in which they carefully chose 20 affluent countries in their study to minimize the influence of poverty and lack of medical care, and assessed the number of deaths caused by heart disease for four different years. Once again, the correlation between A1 beta casein consumption and mortality from heart disease was very high.

Gail Bowman says, "It is possible to find A2 Casein milk, but it is very difficult. All the cattle in the herd have to be tested because A1 Casein is passed to offsring the same way that blue eyes or brown eyes are passed. So, you have to have a cow that has A2/A2 genetics to be sure that her offspring wont produce A1 Casein. One source for A2 milk products is Beyond Organic by Dr. Jordan Rubin who has appeared in many videos in opposition to A1 Beta Casein milk."
