Big, Bright Colors, New Adventures and Exciting, Expanded Programming Announced for Downtown Detroit Parks this Summer

Detroit, MI (PRWEB) June 05, 2013

The Downtown Detroit Partnership (DDP) unveiled the first phase of the bold Placemaking vision announced earlier this year for downtown Detroits central core, as well as expanded, exciting programming for Summer in the Park 2013.

The vision, introduced and powered by Rock Ventures, the DDP, Detroit Economic Growth Corporation, (DECG) and the City of Detroit, calls for lighter, quicker, cheaper amenities to activate Campus Martius and Cadillac Square, as well as Capitol Park, Grand Circus Park and Paradise Valley, and dramatically expands on existing activities, events and entertainment in these public spaces.

The significant expansion of summer activities downtown represents a transformative partnership between the City of Detroit, the DDP, the DEGC and private industry, said Bob Gregory Senior Vice President of the Downtown Detroit Partnership.

We are excited to offer new and improved street and park activations to expand Summer in the Park and showcase three additional historic downtown public spaces. The programming will be unique and reflect the character and quality of each district, Gregory added.

Summer in the Park 2013 is funded by DDP, with assistance from Rock Ventures.

The placemaking vision for downtown Detroit is real as of today, said Rock Ventures Founder and Chairman Dan Gilbert. Detroiters and visitors who come downtown will enjoy and experience the citys urban core and public spaces in creative and innovative ways, unlike anything they have previously experienced downtown. Kids to seniors and everyone in between will find something fun and intriguing as they explore all of the new activities in our fast-changing urban center.

New Placemaking

The Markets

Building from the great market history associated with Cadillac Square, a weekly food market and a monthly artisan market will be introduced this summer. Launching in June, Summer Time Food and The Market at Campus Martius Park will feature an area dedicated to dynamic retailers, artists, designers, crafters, vintage/antique dealers, craft-prepared food products, and distinctive apparel, home goods, and accessory brands during the popular entertainment series 4th Fridays 11a.m. 9 p.m. and the following Saturdays 11 a.m. -7 p.m.

The Beach at Campus Martius Park

Modeled after the successful Paris Plage in Paris, France, the Beach at Campus Martius Park will be a new fun and relaxing gathering place. Located in the Parks south end and adjacent to the fountain, the Beach will include a large deck with a variety of seating options as well as dining and beverage service, providing an opportunity for people of all ages to eat, drink, build sand castles and listen to great music.
