The Allergy Center at Santa Rosa Head and Neck Surgery Group Combats Allergens in Pollen Prone Sonoma County

Santa Rosa, CA (PRWEB) March 25, 2013

More than 50 million Americans suffer from uncomfortable allergy symptoms each year, and Sonoma County residents are no strangers to pesky allergens that concentrate the air during the months of spring. March, April, and May are the peak months for many allergy sufferers, and the diverse plant life in Sonoma County promises to flood the air with dozens of severe types of allergens.

The Allergy Center at SRHN offers a unique, collaborative care model to patients suffering from symptoms of allergies. Experienced Allergy Specialist and SRHN allergy clinic manager Linda Biggers works alongside SRHN Otolaryngologists, ear, nose, and throat (ENT) surgeons, to provide patients with integrated, multi specialist care. Linda is a member of the American Academy of Otolaryngic Allergy and has additional training in immunotherapy from ALK Abello, the world leader in allergy vaccination. A Sonoma County native, Linda is especially familiar with the types of allergens in the area.

Linda explains what its like working as an allergy clinician in the area, Part of the reason I love my job is that I believe that all allergy sufferers should be diagnosed. Its common for people to just assume that their symptoms are allergy related, but confirming that suspicion can help pinpoint the best treatment, and its very important to determine if the symptoms are caused by something unrelated to allergies.

I regularly hear from patients that they had never experienced allergies until they moved to Sonoma County. We live in a beautiful environment with diverse plant life and warm weather, but people with severe allergies to pollens cant always appreciate the area when it causes agonizing allergic reactions. Heavy rain leading up to springtime, followed by warm weather and lots of sun, is an indicator of a bad allergy season to come. Some of the worst allergy seasons Ive seen during my career have come in the last few years right here in Sonoma County, and I expect this year to be no different.

At the Allergy Center at SRHN, we offer skin testing for identifying inhalant allergies, and it takes, on average, only 30 minutes to receive a detailed, specific results report after the test. My patients benefit from coming to our allergy center, where expert ENT doctors see their patients under the same roof. Ive had the privilege of working with the ENTs at Santa Rosa Head and Neck for over 10 years, and weve developed strong professional relationships. When a patient with symptoms that may be allergy related comes to see one of our ENTs, the doctor records the patients information on the chart and refers the patient to me for further evaluation. Similarly, I refer patients to ENTs for care when their allergy symptoms cause health problems that our ENTs are qualified to treat.

Im proud to be a part of the comprehensive care team at SRHN. I urge all Sonoma County nasal allergy sufferers to seek diagnosis with a nasal allergy specialist to ensure that they receive the best treatment, and so that they can enjoy the rich atmosphere the area has to offer.

The Allergy Center at SRHN, located at 1701 4th Street, Suite 120, Santa Rosa, offers the latest available treatments in immunotherapy and allergy medications. To schedule an appointment with Linda Biggers or an ENT doctor, please call (707) 523-7025.
