Skin Care Daily Sunscreen Use Slows Skin Aging

Los Angeles, California (PRWEB) June 08, 2013

According to a June 3, 2013 CBS News article titled Daily Sunscreen Slows Skin Aging, Even in Middle Age: Study, the use of sunscreen on a daily basis may slow down photo-aging, or skin aging caused by exposure to the sun's ultraviolet rays. While millions use sunscreen to protect themselves against skin cancer and sunburn, researchers have found that sunscreen may provide more skin care benefits than previously thought. Im not at all surprised by the test results reported by the University of Queensland, says Dr. Simon Ourian, Medical Director of Epione Beverly Hills. Ive been a strong advocate of daily sunscreen use for many years.

According to the article, antioxidants and sunscreen makers have claimed their products prevent the visual signs of aging, but this contention hasnt previously been backed scientific evidence. The researchers involved in this new study examined 903 individuals aged 55 and below with the purpose of determining whether people who use sunscreen products on a daily basis show signs of aging more slowly than those who only applied the products discretionally.

The report continues by saying that after four years of tracking, researchers have calculated that those who used sunscreen daily showed a 24% decrease in skin aging compared to those who used it discretionally. The anti-aging effects of sunscreen have manifested in all daily-use participants regardless of age, showing that even middle aged people can use it for skin care benefits.

The results of this study should convince more people to take skin care seriously and encourage them to use sunscreen on a regular basis, says Dr. Ourian. It is best for people, especially those who are exposed to the sun's rays regularly, to consider using a broad-spectrum sunscreen, which protects against harmful UVA and UVB rays. The product should also have an SPF of fifteen or higher, as a product with a lower SPF may only protect against sunburn and not against aging and skin cancer.

Dr. Ourian has been a pioneer in laser technology and non-invasive aesthetic procedures including Restylane, Juv
