Ocean Breeze Recovery Links Up for Childrens Drug Prevention

Parkland, FL (PRWEB) June 17, 2013

Working on a daily basis with individuals struggling with addictions, the Ocean Breeze Recovery staff knows first-hand from many of their clients that addiction can, and does, begin as early as elementary and middle-school. In fact, according to a study by the National Center on Addiction and Substance Abuse (CASA) at Columbia University, a sobering 44% of middle school-aged children have seen drugs used and sold, and their peers either drunk or high. This substance abuse trend is on the rise.

Supporting programs to prevent drug and alcohol use among children and adolescents is the focal point of the Kiwanis Golf Classic fundraiser being held on June 24th, 2013 at Parkland Golf & Country Club, in Parkland, Florida.

By partnering with Kiwanis, an international champion of childrens issues, this Florida rehab center wants to make an impact statement on the importance of early prevention of drug and alcohol use among pre-teens and adolescents. Ocean Breeze Recovery is adamant that you cant start this drug prevention education process too soon, and that family education along with community support is ground zero.

Ocean Breeze Recovery is excited to announce that the 2013 Kiwanis Childrens Drug Prevention Golf Classic will offer a $ 10K prize, with $ 5000 in the winners pocket and the other $ 5000 earmarked for programs that prevent childrens drug and alcohol abuse in South Florida, as well as other Kiwanis supported childrens causes.

The Greg Norman designed Parkland Golf Course is not your average 18 holes. Its a powerhouse, and the Golf Classic tournament will have participants hitting good deeds and good drives down the fairways.

A shot gun start at 9am will kick off this years Golf Classic, and the scramble format golf tourney will include plenty of on-course contests, as well as food sampling stations and great intra-competition prizes. Putting and hole-in-one competitions will keep the festivities going, and the 19th hole is the place to wind up this great fund-raising event with a buffet dinner, raffles, a silent auction and awards ceremony. Participants are welcome to sign up for the Golf Classic individually or as teams.

According to the treatment staff at Ocean Breeze Recovery, one of the most important aspects of an addict or alcoholics recovery from substance abuse is finding healthy and involved ways to enjoy life. Golf is a great example!

The golf course at Parkland Golf & Country Club is a certified Gold Audubon International Signature Sanctuary. This means that participants in the Golf Classic will be enjoying a course that is not only a technical challenge to play, but also one planned and constructed with the highest level of environmentally responsible actions. Few golf courses achieve the Gold level status, but Parkland has!

Ocean Breeze Recovery encourages golfers of all levels to sign up for the 2013 Kiwanis Childrens Drug Prevention Golf Classic on June 24th, 2013. Bring your non-golfing buddies along to caddy (and do a little fundraising support, too!) and enjoy the day, doing good for the kids in the Parkland areas own backyard.
