NatureBox and WhyHunger Join Forces to Bring Nutritious Food to All Americans

San Carlos, CA (PRWEB) May 28, 2013

NatureBox, an online brand of healthy snacks, and WhyHunger, a leading nonprofit in the fight against hunger and poverty, today announced a partnership to help provide nutritious meals to the 49 million Americans who struggle to put food on their tables.

NatureBoxs monthly healthy snack box delivered to your doorstep concept provides busy individuals, families, and offices with easy access to nutritious, minimally-processed, and delicious-tasting snacks. As part of the partnership, NatureBox will support WhyHungers work to solve the problems of hunger and poverty through solutions that meet peoples immediate food needs, while working to transform communities and make healthy food available to everyone. They will also donate their healthy snacks directly to WhyHunger partners, including community-based organizations, emergency food providers and summer meal programs for low-income children.

WhyHunger is an ideal partner for us because they dont simply focus on a charitable feeding model as the solution to hunger, but rather on innovations that ensure our nations hungry have access to healthier, more nutritious food, said NatureBox Co-founder Gautam Gupta. Studies have shown that low-income households, which often struggle with food insecurity and hunger, are increasingly affected by obesity, an issue that is very personal to me, said Gupta.

The NatureBox concept evolved from Guptas personal struggle with obesity throughout his childhood. Weighing in at 210 pounds by age 12, he had lost 70 pounds by the time he was 19. I spent most of my life struggling with obesity. Our company is passionate about providing healthier eating choices for everyone, and the basic right to have enough food on your plate is fundamental to this. NatureBox is growing rapidly, and we look forward to doing more and more in working with WhyHunger to address the hunger problem with nutritious food.

NatureBox provides three different healthy snack subscription boxes monthly for individuals, large families, and offices. The snacks are sourced from local growers and independent food suppliers across the U.S. Every snack under the NatureBox brand is free from high fructose corn syrup, hydrogenated oils, trans fats and artificial sweeteners, flavors, and colors.

WhyHunger brings key partners to the table including thousands of grassroots organizations helping to increase access to nutritious food and invest in community power across the United States. As well as the National Hunger Hotline (1-866-3-HUNGRY), which refers individuals in need of emergency food assistance to food banks, government nutrition programs, and community organizations in their neighborhoods and shares information about nutrition education through national resource guides such as Cooking Up Community. Aligning our efforts with NatureBox to fight hunger in communities throughout the U.S is a natural new partnership opportunity for us, especially because of our shared focus on health and nutrition, says Noreen Springstead, WhyHungers Director Fundraising and Marketing. Our partnership with NatureBox complements the work of our many partners on the ground who are already incorporating healthy food and nutrition education into their programs.
