Moms Meals Insights: Gluten-Free Doesnt Have to Mean Taste-Free

Des Moines, IA (PRWEB) May 23, 2013

Gluten-free diets sound relatively simple to understand; they are diets free of the protein gluten, most commonly found in wheat, barley, and rye.

A gluten-free diet is used to treat celiac disease in which gluten causes inflammation to the small intestine, often leading to complications. While in theory it sounds simple to follow a gluten-free diet, many find there is gluten in more foods than they realized, and that substituting gluten-free food often leads to a flavorless diet.

For those on a gluten-free diet, Moms Meals, a company that prepares and delivers meals, has introduced a new menu, allowing those on a restricted diet to eat gluten-free without sacrificing taste and quality.

It can be a challenge to change your diet to gluten-free because of the additional costs, the need to carefully check labels, and knowing there are many foods you simply have to do without, said Rick Anderson, president of Moms Meals. But that doesnt mean it cant taste good. We looked for a balance of flavor and health, and think we have found it with this new menu.

Among the new options for breakfast are a Fruit Breakfast Pizza with apples, peaches, strawberries and string cheese; a Breakfast Skillet with turkey sausage, scrambled eggs, and seasoned potatoes with cheddar cheese; and Cinnamon Oatmeal with sliced peaches and granola.

For lunch or dinner, the Vegetable Ratatouille with baked chicken breast; the Chicken and Vegetable Pot Pie; and the Honey Lime Chicken with black beans, corn, brown rice, and salsa verde are among the favorites.

The Honey Lime Chicken has found a permanent spot on my dinner rotation, said one customer who has been struggling to find the right gluten-free meal choices for herself and her husband.
