Lean On Life Supports New Research Cautioning the Consumption of High-Protein Meat

TORONTO, ON (PRWEB) May 29, 2013

Lean On Life, a leading healthy lifestyle website with the latest on weight loss, nutrition, and fitness is supporting new research which cautions against consuming antibiotic-fed animals.

As Lean On Life reports (http://www.leanonlife.com/high-protein-eaters-beware/), meat and protein are essential in a healthy diet for many reasons such as bodily function, health, and weight loss.

However, for over 40 years, the FDA has acknowledged that animal sources of meat have contained antibiotic-resistant bacteria, also known as superbugs. These superbugs pose a serious risk to health, causing potential food-borne illnesses like E. coli and salmonella, and antibiotic resistance.

A recent study published in February 2013 by the Environmental Working Group found that the antibiotic-resistant bacteria in animals is still present, and leads to foodborne illness and infections. These products are currently being sold in many grocery stores in North America.

Farmers and food producers who look after animals claim that antibiotics are used to keep the animals healthy, prevent and control illness, and encourage growth. However, this means that animals are unnecessarily overfed antibiotics and when consumed, human bodies might build a resistance against these antibiotics. Consequently, any sickness that could simply be treated with an antibiotic may require further medical assistance, and the illnesses may become more difficult to treat.

As Lean On Life reports, more than half the samples of ground turkey, pork chops and ground beef collected by the federal government from supermarkets contained bacteria resistant to antibiotics. Lean On Life Coach, Tal Brodsky, says that Although a high-protein diet can be extremely healthy, it is crucial to inspect and keep a mindful eye when buying animal products.

Furthermore, he states that there are organic meat options available that have not been fed antibiotics and do not contain hormone injections. Brodsky also suggests including other high-protein food alternatives into a diet, including legumes, nuts, cheese, or soy products.
