Hypnotension warns that healthy fast food is often not that healthy.

The Subway chain likes to promote itself as the healthy fast food restaurant but a new study from the University of California Los Angeles (UCLA) found little difference between subway and McDonalds, and for people with Hypertension Subway could be seen as worse.

Researchers from the University of California Los Angeles (UCLA) revealed that teenagers who bought Subway meals in America consumed nearly as many calories as those who bought a meal from McDonalds.

Subway meals contain nearly as many calories and more salt than those from McDonalds.

High salt content is recognised as a significant cause of high blood pressure.

Eating from either restaurant is likely to contribute towards overeating and obesity as the average meal bought by the participants contained 1,038 calories at McDonald's and 955 calories at Subway. The average salt intake was 2,149 mg at Subway and 1,829 mg at McDonald's.

In the UK Subway are currently promoting their Get active, have fun and help hearts in your local community! 5K fun runs around the country.

They have announced that Subway stores are hosting a series of SUBWAY Helping Hearts Family 5K events throughout the UK in 2013 to raise money for Heart Research UK.

Funds raised are going towards the Heart Research UK and SUBWAY
