This was our first Stay Fit, Have Fun event and we are thrilled at the tremendous reception from attendees and the great level of excitement exhibited. Its important to reinforce the healthful messages delivered to the kids, and ensuring that physical education classes continue to be available at the school is a great way to do that, according to Dr. Michael Omidi, co-founder of Childrens Obesity Fund.

I had such a blast with the kids at Westport Heights, says professional skateboarder Manny Santiago, event co-sponsor and speaker. Getting outside, having fun and being active are critical components of being healthy. I hope that message, along with the fun-filled day and all it entailed, leaves a lasting impression on kids and adults alike.

On Friday, May 10, 2013 nearly 500 students and staff members of Los Angeles Westport Heights Elementary School enjoyed a fun-filled day with a thrilling skateboarding demonstration by Manny Santiago and Dave Bachinski who are members of the national competitive team for OC Ramps. In addition, Santiago also addressed attendees to share his enthusiasm for fitness and healthy choices and his love for kids. Attendees all received a nutritious snack from the local Whole Foods Market and bottles of 100% spring-fed water from People Water. First through third grade students were gifted a copy of the I AM Foundations book, I am Healthy! Affirmations for Health and Well-being that encourages healthy choices regarding food, exercise, and daily activities.

According to Westport Heights Principal Karen Long, There is nothing like a thrilling demonstration filled with quarter pipes, rails, and triangle stairs to excite and engage children. Staff and parents alike are so thankful for this fun and insightful day provided for our students. The event was a tremendous effort alone, but then to also ensure an ongoing impact to reinforce the importance of health and activity Im very grateful to the Childrens Obesity Fund, Manny Santiago, and all of the event sponsors for their generous and caring spirits.
