California Body Care supports Our Community House of Hope (OCHH)

Thousand Oaks, CA (PRWEB) March 29, 2013

California Body Care (CBC), a leading provider of holistic skin care products, has become a fundraising partner for Our Community House of Hope (OCHH) in Thousand Oaks, Calif.

The mission of OCHH is to offer end-of-life care to terminally ill people who have no financial resources in both Ventura County and northwest Los Angeles County. CBC plans to donate products to the organization, which can then either be sold or given away as door prizes or other fundraising incentives.

According to data from the California Office of Statewide Health Planning and Development, the number of patients entering California hospice care increased 22.1 percent between 2006 and 2011. Medicare and Medi-Cal often pay for hospice care as does some employer benefits plans. However, for patients without resources who do not qualify for these programs, end-of-life care can be unaffordable.

Hospice programs provide drugs, medical equipment and medical supplies related to end-of-life care. Additionally, hospice provides RN care, social worker visits, chaplain services and home health aid. Patients who are often in pain receive palliative care that allows them to spend their last days with dignity, while families receive support to help them cope with the terminal illness and death of a loved one.

OCHH operates a "House of Hope" as well as delivering resources for hospice education. The House of Hope is a four-bedroom home in Thousand Oaks that provides care to adult patients with less than three months to live. Educational programs focus on university students, health care professionals and community groups, and they are designed to teach about compassionate possibilities for end-of-life care. Some OCHH educational programs deliver continuing education credits for health care providers.

For the first anniversary of their first house, OCHH assembled a wine and food pairing event as a fundraiser. The organization hoped to raise $ 30,000 from the event. In addition to this and other fundraising opportunities, OCHH benefits entirely from private donations like those from CBC.
