Bitingduck Press Shows Print Books, Ebooks, and WebBytez at the LA Times Festival of Books

Los Angeles, CA (PRWEB) March 26, 2013

Bitingduck Press is an independent publisher of electronic and print fiction and non-fiction. Since its incorporation in April 2012, the press has published eight of its own titles as well as acquiring Boson Books, one of the first e-publishers on the web. Now representing over 70 authors and 150 titles, Bitingduck will celebrate its first anniversary at the LA Times Festival of Books on April 20-21, 2013 with a variety of products and events.

New releases available at the Festival include The Trajectory of Dreams, by Nicole Wolverton, a psychological thriller based around the space shuttle; A Slow Cold Death, by Susy Gage, an academic murder mystery; and Duck Boy, by Bill Bunn, a young adult fantasy adventure. Advance review copies of several upcoming titles will be distributed to professional readers on a first-come, first-served basis.

Two local authors will also make appearances to sign postcards and/or CDs for their e-books. Brad Eastland, author of The Basketball Expatriate, will be present for a signing on Sunday, April 21. Marie Nadeau, author of The Yoga Facelift, will demonstrate her facial yoga exercises on both days of the festival.

Marie will offer advice to potential business partners interested in Web Bytez, Bitingduck Press's patent-pending system for selling e-books through any merchant. Marie's Mill Valley skin-care company, Marie-Veronique Organics, was the press's first partner in the technology. With no start-up costs and no inventory, Web Bytez allows vendors who do not usually stock books to carry e-books. Since Marie-Veronique Organics is a small boutique with limited shelf space, this technology has made it possible for them to carry The Yoga Facelift.

Starting in May, Bitingduck Press will begin opening Web Bytez to independent authors. Authors wishing to use the system can sign up to have their books sold through the Bitingduck Press webstore, and are free to solicit merchant partners anywhere. Details of the program will be released at the Festival of Books.

Finally, two of Bitingduck's editors will be present to discuss their freelance services to authors who are not looking to publish with the press. While the press's small size limits the number of books that can be accepted each year, the editors can provide hourly or project-based help to independent authors on matters of interior and exterior design, e-book formatting, plot editing, and copyediting. Such services are ideal for self-publishers who are expert in one or two aspects of book production, but who need help with some of the details.

Bitingduck will have a booth near the center of the University of Southern California campus, near the poetry stage. Both the editor-in-chief and the technology director will be present for both days of the festival to speak with readers, authors, and vendors. Free custom rubber duckies will be given out to the first 100 visitors.

Details of Bitingduck Press's offerings and submissions guidelines can be found on the press's website. The press is currently accepting submissions in all genres for its Fall 2014-Fall 2015 catalogs. Fiction and non-fiction about science, unique and wacky young adult novels, and mysteries and thrillers are all particularly welcome.
