Kaufman Shows People With Diabetes How to Use New Technology to Improve Their Lives

St. Louis, MO (PRWEB) May 21, 2013

Dr. Francine Kaufman, inventor of Extend Nutrition, recalls the first insulin pump she used with her patients in the 1980s: It weighed several pounds and was jokingly referred to as the big blue brick. For the most part, it could only be used in the hospital setting.

The technology has advanced greatly in the 30 years since then, and the advantages are greater as well. The insulin pump is now a small mechanical device worn on the outside of the body, often on a belt or a pocket. It delivers fast-acting insulin in precise amounts at pre-programmed times.

It is estimated that hundreds of thousands of people around the world use an insulin pump, many of whom are also using continuous glucose monitoring (CGM). A CGM is a small sensor that is inserted under the skin to automatically check blood glucose levels.

Kaufman, a world-renowned endocrinologist and past president of the American Diabetes Association, shows in Insulin pumps and Continuous Glucose Monitoring how the new technology of insulin pumps and CGMs can be used to improve the lives of people with type 1 and type 2 Diabetes.

There are over 26 million children and adults in the United States diagnosed with diabetes.

These technologies although not really that much more complicated than your smartphone, computer, or DVD- do require basic understanding, training and follow-up adjustment if they are going to be helpful in improving diabetes outcomes, Kaufman writes.

The purpose of the book is to give you practical tips, including the knowledge and the skills to maximize insulin pump therapy and continuous glucose monitoring, if that is what you and your health care provider decide is best for you or your child. The goal is to enable you to make your journey through life with diabetes as successful as possible.

Kaufman has devoted her lifes work to doing just that. In addition to this newest book, she is the author of Diabesity and creator of Extend Nutrition snacks: The only snacks clinically proven to help control blood sugar for up to 9 hours.

The importance of a healthy diet and good blood sugar control was paramount on Kaufmans mind when she created Extend Nutrition snacks in the 1990s. Her goal was to help reduce nighttime hypoglycemia for children with diabetes.

She formulated Extend Nutrition snacks with a patented blend of lean protein, complex carbohydrates and healthy fats. The key ingredient is raw uncooked cornstarch, a very complex carbohydrate that digests and converts to blood sugar very slowly.

The snacks were originally used to help people with diabetes manage blood sugar. Today, because they help keep blood sugar stable longer than any other snack on the market, they are also used to help control appetite, reduce weight and sustain energy.

In her book, Kaufman points out the importance of diet, especially carbohydrates, and the use of insulin pumps and CGMs.

Carbohydrate is the main nutrient that affects your glucose levels, so you need to learn how to count carbohydrate. But you must also understand how the other macronutrients fat and protein interact with the carbohydrate, in order to customize your insulin use to your bodys individual needs, she writes. These are critical skills to have in your journey with diabetes.

Kaufman says the benefits of insulin pumps are many .The pumps reduce hypoglycemia, improve A1C levels, improve quality of life and reduce daily insulin dosages. CGM gives real-time glucose readings and, when combined with an insulin pump, allows for the management of glucose levels on the go.

Kaufman is grateful for the new advances in technology but believes the best is yet to come: Dr. Kaufman is leading the development of an artificial pancreas.

We have come a long way, and the reality of an artificial pancreas is in sight, she writes. The end result will be the near-perfect control of glucose levels without much human intervention.

Dr. Kaufmans book, Insulin Pumps and Glucose Monitoring, is available at http://www.ExtendNutrition.com.

More Than Just Caffeine, Coffee Consumption Can Reduce the Risk of Heart Failure, Type 2 Diabetes and Parkinsons Disease

New Orleans, LA (PRWEB) April 08, 2013

The 245th American Chemical Society National Meeting & Exposition in New Orleans April 7 11th on Chemistry of Energy & Food is sure to be an informative exposition this year. The relationship between chemistry and food has become a trending topic in the minds of many consumers. Label reading is no longer the exception but the norm for the average shopper, and foods and beverages alike are getting more and more recognition for their natural health benefits. One such subject matter that has been widely studied is coffee.

Dr. Joe Vinson from the Department of Chemistry at the University of Scranton, is presenting More than just caffeine Tuesday, April 9, 2013 10:20 AM at the Natural Products for Health and Pharmaceuticals and Biotech forum from 08:00 AM - 11:50 AM in the DoubleTree New Orleans, Room: Madewood A. As evidence for coffee's diabetes and heart disease protection Dr. Vinson will present a new human study demonstrating a dose-response green coffee extracts inhibition of glucose absorption during a glucose tolerance test in normal subjects. Dr. Vinsons presentation will also summarize numerous epidemiological studies indicating that coffee consumption, especially decaffeinated coffee, will reduce the risk of all-cause mortality, heart failure, Type 2 Diabetes and Parkinson's disease. The studies' results are usually J-curves indicating an optimal consumption of 2-4 cups/day. Dr. Vinsons studies of antioxidants in foods and beverages indicate that coffee is the #1 source of polyphenol antioxidants in the U.S. diet and this has been borne out in several European countries.

Dr. Vinson will also discuss a recent study in India with obese subjects which showed a significant weight loss and body fat reduction after consuming capsules containing a green coffee extract which was high in chlorogenic acids. Roasting is known to greatly reduce the levels of these compounds in the beverage coffee.

hCGTreatments / Diet Doc hCG Diets & Weight Loss Plans Announces New Medically Supervised Diet Plans to Produce Fast Weight Loss And Counter Type II Diabetes

Chicago, IL (PRWEB) April 13, 2013

Obesity can lead to a host of physical illnesses like heart disease, cancer, and type II diabetes. Diet Doc provides medical weight loss for Americans struggling with obesity, thereby counteracting the dangerous side effects caused by this American epidemic. Insulin is a hormone that helps transport blood glucose into the body's cells for storage or fuel. A diet high in processed carbohydrates, such as sugar and white bread, increases the risk of elevated insulin levels which can trigger insulin resistance and type 2 diabetes. When one overeats or maintains a diet consisting mostly of processed carbohydrates, the pancreas produces excess insulin. Over time, excess insulin can cause the bodys insulin receptors to shut down. This condition is called "insulin resistance." When one is insulin-resistant, the body does not have an effective way of carrying energy sources into the cells. As a result, the cells begin starving, forcing the pancreas to produce more insulin. Aside from the known association of insulin resistance with metabolic syndrome, abdominal obesity, elevated cholesterol levels and high blood pressure, several other medical conditions exist which are also associated with insulin resistance. Diet Doc helps to prevent elevated insulin levels by providing a detailed, medically supervised weight loss plan focused on reestablishing a healthy lifestyle and enabling patients to lose weight fast with safe, prescription hCG treatments.

In order to help prevent type II diabetes, Diet Doc has improved their hCG diet plans to help counteract harmful side effects of insulin resistance, providing improved nutrition to counteract harmful dietary habits. In the 1950s, Dr. A.T.W. Simeons discovered that hCG, or human gonadotropin, was effective in producing fast weight loss when used in combination with an extremely low calorie diet. Simeons diet, however, consisting of only 500 calories consumed daily, posed significant health compromise, causing symptoms of starvation like muscle and hair loss, as well as extreme fatigue and exhaustion. Diet Doc experts have spent over a decade researching, improving and modernizing the original, unhealthy hCG diet, becoming the leader in medically supervised fast weight loss diet plans. By increasing the allowable daily caloric intake to over 1000, as well as providing pure prescription grade hCG, patients are losing pounds and inches without side effects like those associated with the outdated 500 calorie Simeons hCG protocol. Diet Docs pure prescription hCG diet plan coupled with a medically supervised nutrition protocol triggers the patients hypothalamus to released stored fat into the bloodstream to be burned for energy, resulting in fast weight loss and preventing starvation-like symptoms. The body begins to easily burn this stored fat for energy, allowing it to function normally during lowered caloric intake. By combining prescription hCG with custom made, nutritionist-designed diet plans, specific to each patients dietary and nutritional needs, patients are experiencing fast weight loss, typically in the most difficult to lose areas, such as the underarms, hips, thighs and belly.

Subsequent to an extensive evaluation followed by a doctor consultation, hCG will be prescribed, typically administered once per day, to be used in conjunction with the personalized diet plans. Although prescription hCG injectable solution is the most preferred method of delivery due to its ability to produce more rapid weight loss, hCG is also available in sublingual tablets and oral hCG drops. Regardless of the delivery method, patients that follow Diet Docs diet plan guidelines will experience fast weight loss with 97% of current clients reporting a loss of up to or exceeding one pound per day of unwanted, unhealthy and embarrassing excess fat.

Diet Docs skilled and dedicated staff of fast weight loss professionals is passionate in the quest to help all Americans achieve healthy goals and to enjoy a future of improved living, avoiding countless weight related diseases and steering clear of insulin resistance and type 2 diabetes, naturally.

Texas Bariatric Specialists is Ecstatic to Announce that a Gastric Bypass Surgery Performed by Dr. Nilesh Patel Cures Man of Diabetes Symptoms

San Antonio, Texas (PRWEB) May 08, 2013

Dr. Nilesh A. Patel of Texas Bariatric Specialists (TBS) announced today that patient, David Cruz, has achieved his ultimate goal of becoming a healthier version of himself. Gastric Bypass Surgery has rid him of all diabetes and high blood pressure symptoms with the assurance of keeping his health for the sake of not only himself, but his parents.

David Cruzs struggle with weight started when he was diagnosed with severe asthma at age 5. Even though he always tried to stay active by participating in football and basketball, he was still overweight. Once it was time for David to go to college, he started gaining weight rapidly because he didnt have family or friends around to tell him that what he was putting into his body was not good for his health. He wasnt a big breakfast person nor cooked his own food, so he would go all day without eating and then binge on junk food at night.

The constant binge-eating lead to David being diagnosed with type II diabetes and high blood pressure. At the young age of 21, he was put on the highest dosage of medicine for his conditions and began having problems with his pancreas. At this point, David was scared. There is no reason why I should be this unhealthy, he said, I dont want to not be able to take care of myself. On top of this scare was the thought of his parents rough medical history. Thinking about his Dads diabetes and high blood pressure and his Moms muscle disease, David started looking up ways to cure his own diabetes and weight loss surgery came up as an option. I have to make sure I am healthy for my parents, David said.

Before making the decision to find himself a weight loss surgeon, David tried many alternative methods to losing the weight including the Adkins Diet, various weight-loss pills, and eating a lot of salads. Nothing was beneficial. He only succeeded in rubber-banding back and forth and gaining more weight. At this point, David knew it was time to do something more.

He researched a few weight loss surgeons and attended a few seminars before stumbling upon Dr. Patels team at Texas Bariatric Specialists (TBS). David saw Dr. Patels great track record with all the work he has done and thoroughly enjoyed his experience attending one of the TBS weight loss seminars. He felt comfortable with the staff and knew that the path to Gastric Bypass Surgery was his next step.

After the surgery, David felt immediately different. He was so full of energy that he had to ask Dr. Patel the soonest he could start running before he even left the hospital! Once he was able to start working out, David lost the weight really fast. In the first 6 months, he lost 70 lbs. and had a whole new routine. He incorporated a lot of protein bars and shakes into his diet, cut out all sodas, and didnt eat anything with added sugar.

The biggest benefit of Davids Gastric Bypass Surgery was that he never had to take medication for either of his conditions again. His diabetes and high blood pressure had subsided and he was healthy. I dont know why they dont recommend weight loss surgery instead of insulin at the Diabetes clinic, David exclaims.

As his confidence continues to soar, David concludes with this point, The goal in life is to be healthy. Physical appearance is just a bonus. People need to look at weight loss from a point of view other than vanity. I mean, who doesnt want to be healthy?!

hCGTreatments / Diet Doc hCG Diets & Weight Loss Plans Now Fight the Growing Risk of Diabetes Symptoms With New, Advanced Weight Loss Tips

Los Angeles, CA (PRWEB) May 17, 2013

According to a new release by the Center for Disease Control and Prevention, over the next thirty years, the rates of diabetes symptoms and diagnoses could reach staggering levels. Diet Doc recognizes the relationship between weight gain and diabetes symptoms and seeks to relieve patients suffering from weight related health concerns through new and improved patient education and weight loss tips for healthy eating. Instead of simply succeeding in significant weight reduction, Diet Doc achieves complete lifestyle transformations for their patients through fast and effective hCG diets.

As reported by Everyday Health, by the year 2050, nearly one third of all Americans could experience diabetes symptoms or receive a positive diagnosis. The articles authors, Beth Orenstein and Farrokh Sohrabi, MD, offer seven healthy eating principles that patients can follow to combat the risk of diabetes symptoms. Their healthy eating principles include drinking plenty of water, avoiding sugary drinks, practicing portion control and eating healthy foods high in fiber. Diet Doc incorporates these principles into all hCG diets not only to fight diabetes symptoms, but also as weight loss tips to control weight gain and aid in fat elimination.

Diet Doc understands the commitment it takes to overcome extreme weight gain and believes that the weight loss tips and hCG treatments used within their hCG diet plans is the fastest and most efficient path to weight reduction. The female body naturally produces the hCG hormone during pregnancy to provide adequate nutrition to the growing fetus. The hormone mobilizes extra fat storage within the mother while leaving her structural fat and muscle mass untouched. hCG was discovered in the 1950s by researcher A.T.W. Simeons. Diet Doc has since modernized this research with todays science and technology and began utilizing the benefits of hCG as a fast weight loss tool in hCG diets. hCG treatments are effective in suppressing the appetite to assist in fast weight elimination so that patients can focus on incorporating healthy eating and weight loss tips to create a positive lifestyle change.

While patients are losing weight, they are also working closely with Diet Docs team of weight reduction professionals to become educated on how their body responds to fat elimination and which weight loss tips are most effective in helping them attain their weight goals. Diet Docs diet plans revolve around the belief that no persons plan for losing weight is exactly like anothers, and each person responds differently to weight reduction, therefore, hCG diets should be created by taking personal needs into consideration. Each potential Diet Doc patient initially completes and extensive evaluation and meets personally with a physician to review organ function and internal processes that may be inhibiting fat elimination. Following this consultation, patients work with a certified nutritionist to develop hCG diets incorporating weight loss tips that will benefit their personal needs. All hCG diets are created specifically for each patient around their weight goals, food preferences, activity levels and lifestyle choices. Diet Doc believes that following the protocol developed in hCG diets will not only lead to significant weight loss, it will also relieve diabetes symptoms and other health related consequences.

DietAssist responds to research that gut bacteria can reverse obesity and Type-2 diabetes in animal studies

London, UK (PRWEB UK) 25 May 2013

Giving certain bacteria to obese mice could dramatically alter health according to research, published in Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences.

It is thought that the bacteria change the gut lining and in doing so changes the way food is absorbed.

The human body is teeming with bacteria - the tiny organisms outnumber human cells in the body 10 to 1.

And there is growing evidence that this collection of bacteria or "microbiome" affects health.

However, DietAssist say that the idea that people can eat cream cakes and other high fat foods and then just consume a cocktail of bacteria to reverse the effects is ludicrous.

Paul Howard, co-creator of the DietAssist programme, said: The obesity problem in the UK and the western world is well documented and it is because we consume high fat, high sugar foods and too much of them. The solution is to change the type and quantity of what we eat. To do this we have to change the way we think and behave around food.

Overweight or obese people find it hard to lose weight. This is because they deprive themselves of the foods that they love when they diet, so the minute they stop dieting they return to those foods with gusto and, hey presto, the weight returns and then some.

Dieting on its own does not usually change behaviours and so is doomed to failure in most people. Whilst eating these bacteria may cure the symptoms, it fails to address the real problem, which is behavour. A slim person has a completely different way of viewing and relating to food than an overweight person.

In a recent study conducted by DietAssist, the subjects were given no advice on diet, they just used the DietAssist online programme to change the way they felt about food. The average weight loss over 6 weeks was 23 lbs.

One of the study subjects, Julie said: I am really confident going forward; I know Ive got a long way to go but I know I can do it. I have been out for meals, I have been out with friends, but instead of going for the most humungous

hCGTreatments / Diet Doc hCG Diets & Weight Loss Plans Introduces Improved hCG Diets to Help Patients Achieve Best Weight Loss Goals and Reduce the Symptoms of Diabetes

Houston, TX (PRWEB) June 13, 2013

The rise of obesity rates has left researchers searching for methods to help people achieve their best weight loss goals. One consideration is to target the younger population and to educate them on healthy living practices to carry into later life and reduce the risk of weight-related health concerns including symptoms of diabetes. A new study just published in the Journal of Pediatrics found that obese teenagers who achieved best weight loss goals and reduced their body mass by 8% or more showed improvements in insulin sensitivity, an important factor of the symptoms of diabetes. Diet Docs hCG diet plans help all patients, including overweight and obese teenagers, completely transform their lives and achieve initial best weight loss goals with the naturally powerful appetite suppressant hCG and healthy living education.

As reported by Medical News Today, researchers studied a group of 113 adolescents between the ages of 13 and 17 to determine the effect of fat loss on their sensitivity to insulin and the risk for developing symptoms of diabetes. The results of the study showed that the subjects who reduced their body mass by 8% or more by following family-based, lifestyle-modification, best weight loss diet plans, improved their sensitivity to insulin and reduced the risks for symptoms of diabetes. The study participants were taught healthy eating habits and were encouraged to incorporate these practices into their daily routines in addition to physical exercise and counseling on best weight loss goals. Diet Docs hCG diet plans follow a similar model and combine medically supervised weight management tools with education on living a healthy lifestyle to achieve best weight loss and reduce health concerns and the symptoms of diabetes.

Overcoming initial fat loss can be challenging, so Diet Doc created hCG diet plans to provide their patients with an easier and faster way to lose weight fast. Each potential patient will consult with a Diet Doc physician to determine which weight management aids will provide the most effective results. Using hCG treatments as part of hCG diet plans will effectively curb patients appetites and allow them to consume fewer calories to overcome initial best weight loss hurdles. Without intense hunger and cravings, patients can learn to make healthy eating choices and determine which foods will provide adequate nutrition while still leaving them feeling full and satisfied.

Patients will work hand-in-hand with the Diet Doc team of weight management professionals to design hCG diet plans around their age, gender, health history, lifestyle and food preferences. Diet Doc understands that general diet plans will not work for everyone and developed hCG diets around the specific needs of the patient. Not only have Diet Docs hCG diet plans helped patients lose weight fast and reduce health risks such as the symptoms of diabetes, they have also been so successful in achieving patient fat loss that they have become the nations leader in medically supervised weight management.
