Los Angeles Thyroid Surgeon Discusses New Approach To Minimize Neck Scarring During A Partial Or Full Thyroidectomy

Beverly Hills, CA (PRWEB) May 09, 2013

World-renowned thyroid surgeon Dr. Babak Larian, director of the CENTER for Advanced Head & Neck Surgery in Los Angeles, knows that patients are commonly concerned with not only undergoing a procedure to remove a cancerous thyroid gland, but also the after effects and scarring that are associated with the surgery. To ensure optimal patient satisfaction, Dr. Larian is introducing a new technique to minimize scarring that can occur on the neck after thyroid removal. According to Dr. Larian, the scarring that his patients experience as a result of a minimally invasive thyroidectomy is extremely nominal and in some cases, non-existent.

Whenever I perform a minimally invasive thyroidectomy for a patient, Im not only concerned with successfully removing their tumor, but Im also very conscious of leaving them with the least noticeable scar possible, said world-renowned thyroid surgeon Dr. Larian. This is a big area of concern for almost every patient.

To reduce scarring after head and neck surgery, expert California thyroid surgeon Dr. Larian trims away a tiny area of excess skin outlining the incision site once the thyroid gland or tumor has been removed but before closing the opening. After years of performing the routine procedure for hundreds of patients, Dr. Larian believes that one of the main culprits of scarring after thyroid surgery is due to the amount of trauma that the skin experiences at the incision site.

Before I close an incision for a patient after thyroid surgery, I cut away a very small amount of skin near the opening. Because this allows me to suture together new skin that hasnt experienced any pulling, poking, or trauma for an extended period of time, the scar is greatly reduced and the incision heals much better, said expert thyroid surgeon in California Dr. Larian.

Dr. Babak Larian is a highly regarded head & neck surgeon who places an extreme emphasis on providing his patients with the best treatments available and has great experience with minimally invasive thyroid and parathyroid procedures. Upon completion of his medical degree at the prestigious University of CaliforniaIrvine Medical School, Dr. Larian completed a six-year residency program in otolaryngology at UCLA. Dr. Larian currently holds the acclaimed position of Chief of Head & Neck Surgery at Cedars-Sinai Hospital in Los Angeles.

Internationally Renowned Dermatologist Discusses Best Treatments for Rosacea

San Diego, CA (PRWEB) May 30, 2013

A recent study out of Birmingham, England found that patients suffering from erythematotelangiectatic rosacea who underwent Pulsed Dye Laser (PDL) treatments, experienced a significant improvement in their overall quality of life. The board-certified doctors at Goldman, Butterwick, Fitzpatrick, Groff & Fabi Cosmetic Laser Dermatology in San Diego, California use PDL often to treat patients with rosacea, which can range in severity from person to person.

The Pulsed Dye Laser is one of the most effective treatments for combatting the redness and flushing associated with rosacea and we use it, with great success, on many of our patients here in San Diego, said board-certified dermatologist in San Diego Richard Fitzpatrick, MD.

The study, presented by Sandwell and West Birmingham Hospitals, examined 20 patients suffering from varying degrees of erythematotelangiectatic rosacea and gave them a rating on the Dermatology Life Quality Index before receiving laser treatments. With 0 being the best and 30 being the worst, the average score of the patients before any treatment for rosacea was 17.3. After undergoing pulsed dye laser treatments, the average quality of life score improved drastically, dropping to 4.3.

In a lot of cases, treatment with the PDL can eliminate almost all symptoms of rosacea. This is a dramatic and important improvement. We have found this to be true in our practice as well and whats nice is that the treatment does not require downtime for healing, said Dr. Fitzpatrick in response to the study.

At GBFG&F Cosmetic Laser Dermatology, undergoing pulsed dye laser treatments is an outpatient procedure in which the laser light is absorbed by hemoglobin within red cells in the blood vessels and the undesirable capillaries which present a 'red' facial appearance are eliminated. As Dr. Fitzpatrick explains, PDL can provide a great sense of relief to those suffering from rosaceas uncomfortable symptoms.

The laser treatment is relatively painless and with no recovery time needed, patients quickly experience a great sense of relief and improved self-confidence after visiting our office. We understand how uncomfortable the constant redness and flushing of rosacea can be and with laser treatments in San Diego, we can greatly reduce the presence of such symptoms, explains Dr. Fitzpatrick.

Goldman, Butterwick, Fitzpatrick, Groff & Fabi Cosmetic Laser Dermatology is a world-renowned aesthetic center in San Diego, California made up of five internationally distinguished skin care experts, including Mitchel P. Goldman, MD, Kimberly Butterwick, MD, Richard Fitzpatrick, MD, Dr. William Groff, and Sabrina Fabi, MD. As highly acclaimed dermatologists and cosmetic surgeons who have contributed to hundreds of journals and medical textbooks as well as pioneered multiple key procedures, the services provided at GBFG&F are among the most technologically advanced to date. Riverside Facelift Expert Discusses the Importance of Sun Protection

Riverside, CA (PRWEB) June 04, 2013

"Patients who have had a facelift done need to be exceptionally prudent about keeping themselves safe from the sun, especially in the six months immediately following their operations," reminds Dr. Sadati.

During the procedure, Dr. Sadati not only tightens the muscles in the face, but he also tightens the skin in order to eliminate the appearance of wrinkles. This surgical technique restores a person's natural youthful appearance to their face, but it also makes them especially vulnerable to the rays of the sun. Dr. Sadati notes that Riverside patients who do not take extra caution to protect their faces from the sunshine after their operation may suffer the consequences, such as darkened scars that are highly visible, premature formation of wrinkles, and dark spots on their skin.

In the blog post, Dr. Sadati offers patients the following tips to keep themselves protected.

Stay indoors as much as possible, especially in the first six months after the surgery. This is one reason why many patients choose to have a facelift procedure done in the fall or winter months because that is a time of year when they would be staying indoors regardless.

Wear protective clothing and try to stay shaded as much as possible. Patients should make sure to wear hats or head coverings at all times, preferably something with a brim that provides shade for their face. Even if exposure to the sun is minimal, it's important to protect the face from the sun's rays. For instance, a person should wear a baseball cap even if they are just running to the grocery store.

Always wear sunscreen. Dr. Sadati prefers that his facelift patients wear SPF 30 or higher, and recommends that they buy the sunscreen lotion rather than the spray-on sunscreen. Whether it is cloudy outside or a bright sunny day, facelift patients must protect their faces with sunscreen.

Dr. Sadati finds that patients who take these precautions seriously will enjoy their facelift results for many years to come. By staying out of the sun and wearing sunscreen anytime they are outdoors, patients will find that their faces will look young, fresh, and vibrant for up to 10 years after their operation.

"By taking the necessary steps to protect themselves from the sun right after their operation, patients will reap the benefits of having a beautiful, naturally younger appearance for nearly a decade," Dr. Sadati notes.

Patients who are interested in the facelift procedure are welcome to set up a free cosmetic consultation with the surgeon. At this appointment, patients will find out if they are a good candidate for the facelift as well as have a custom surgical plan created for them. In addition, Dr. Sadati will go over specific instructions for post-operative care that address the patient's individual needs. For more information about the importance of sun protection after a facelift surgery, contact Dr. Sadati today.

Probiotic Action Discusses the Link Between Mites and Rosacea

Miami, FL (PRWEB) January 31, 2013

An article in the Health & Family section from Time Magazine Online exposes the reality that certain Mites living in your pores are to blame for conditions like Rosacea, and other acne-type ailments.

Researchers at the National University of Ireland have made a disgusting- yet important discovery as to why many may be suffering from Rosacea and acne-like symptoms. Exploration of the skins pores point to Mites, scientifically known as Demodex, to be the culprit of the constant redness, blotches, blemishes, and pimple-like growths on ones face. An article in New Scientist explains that the Mites are attracted to hair follicles on the face and tend to live in the pores of your forehead, nose, and cheeks- the common areas prone to Acne and Rosacea.

Fernando Perez, a representative for Probiotic Action, offers advice on battling the skins reaction to these tiny intruders. Maintaining a skin care regiment that regulates the bacteria levels on your skin, may be able to subside many acne-like symptoms caused by the Mites, he said. Focusing on terminating the Mites will not be as simple as balancing the levels of good and bad bacteria on your skin. Furthermore Perez explains that the cause of these conditions is not the Mites per say, but the way the bacteria in pores reacts to their existence and reproduction.

Perez also added that many skin conditions seem to resemble each other, and treatment for conditions like Acne and Rosacea vary from one individual to another. Seeing a Dermatologist regularly, and focusing on balancing the skins bacteria levels could dramatically reduce and prevent skin issues.

Probiotic Action is an advanced acne treatment that uses a topical probiotic containing the good bacteria that is naturally found on healthy human skin. By using probiotics, Probiotic Action is an effective treatment that restores the normal bacteria content on skin. Probiotic Action will successfully clear skin while protecting skin against bad bacteria, free radicals, and pollutants.

Orange County Facelift Expert Discusses Proper Care of Facelift Incisions

(PRWEB) May 28, 2013

"I feel it's essential that patients and caretakers understand what needs to be done during the recovery process," said Dr. Sadati. "Taking proper care of the incisions after the operation will ensure that there is minimal scarring on the patient's face."

In the blog post, Dr. Sadati identifies the following tips for taking care of incisions after a facelift procedure:

First and foremost, check the incision area for infection every day.

Avoid showering and shampooing hair until at least 48 hours after the operation. Patients should wait until their bandages are removed before they shower or bathe.

Wear sunscreen at all times, and keep the scars protected from the sun every day for at least a year. Patients should wear sunscreen that is SPF 30 or higher regardless of whether it is a cloudy day or a sunny day.

Incisions should be cleaned each day during the recovery process.

Patients should purchase new makeup to wear after their operation. No makeup should be placed on or near the incisions, but should instead only be used to disguise any bruising that might be present on the face for several days after the surgery.

Patients should rest with their head elevated for 48 hours after the operation. This is one of the keys to a successful recovery and ensures the best results. Elevation helps to reduce the swelling on the face as well as minimize the pressure on the incisions, allowing the surgeon's best work to shine through in the end.

Do not remove steri-strips. Steri-strips are designed to fall off on their own when they are done protecting the incision.

Cold compresses can be used to help manage pain and keep the swelling down near the incision area.

Most patients who opt to have a facelift procedure performed want natural-looking results and want the procedure itself to remain discreet. Taking care of the incisions will help minimize the appearance of scars on a person's face, as well as ensure long-term results for the patient. It's important that any patient who is undergoing this particular surgery follow any and all post-operative instructions provided to them by Dr. Sadati.

"I make it a point to create custom recovery instructions for each patient so that everyone's individual needs are addressed," said Dr. Sadati. "These tips will help any patient through the recovery process, but it's important that they also follow the individual instructions that I provide them with prior to the surgery."

Through his extensive consultation process, Dr. Sadati gets to know each patient on an individual basis. He is careful to analyze many different factors before confirming that an individual is a good candidate for the facelift procedure. For him, it's essential that all patients understand the importance of the recovery process and its impact on their long-term results. Marble Media LLCs Nutrition-Centric Blog EatingRightToday.com Discusses the Importance of Iron in Endurance Training and Workout Regimens

Fort Lee, New Jersey (PRWEB) April 15, 2013

The latest blog from EatingRightToday.com titled Plenty of Iron in Your Diet, guest blogger Paisley Livingston discusses the worlds most common nutritional disorder iron deficiency and the importance of iron in the diets of endurance training athletes. Despite the fact that iron is one of the most abundant metals on earth, many humans are operating with an iron deficiency.

According to Livingston, the function of iron in the athletes body is no different than its function in all humans iron converts blood sugar to energy. Athletes in particular rely on metabolic energy to sustain them through a training session or workout, making adequate iron stores a critical element to their success. Iron is necessary to producing red blood cells, and it helps oxygen travel to every cell in the body while escorting carbon dioxide out. Iron is also essential to the health of the bodys immune system.

The body sheds iron through sweating, urination and bleeding. Replenishing iron through dietary sources is the ideal way to maintain adequate iron levels. Foods rich in iron include red meats, dark leafy green vegetables like romaine lettuce, spinach and collard greens, dried fruits, soybeans, lentils and kidney beans. Additional sources of dietary iron include egg yolks, mullosks and liver, so it isnt all that difficult to include iron in a daily diet, Livingston says.

Iron supplements are not a substitute for dietary iron, Livingston says. In fact, unless a physician prescribes iron supplements, they are not a good substitute for eating iron-rich foods.

You need a legitimate medical reason to take iron supplements, since there is no evidence of their benefit if you are not iron deficient, Livingston says. In fact, unless a person tests positive for iron deficiency, iron supplements can actually carry more risks than benefits.

Athletes in particular should be hyper vigilant when it comes to eating iron-rich foods. Iron depletion symptoms can include loss of endurance, chronic fatigue, high exercise heart rate, low power, frequent injury, recurring illness, loss of interest in exercise and irritability. Additional symptoms can include decreased appetite and increased incidence and duration of colds and infections. The only sure diagnosis for an iron deficiency is attainable through a blood test. Anyone experiencing symptoms of iron deficiency should ask their physician for a blood test.
