Hair & Nail Salons in the US Industry Market Research Report from IBISWorld has Been Updated

Los Angeles, CA (PRWEB) December 24, 2012

With industry operators giving their best efforts to offer services in line with changing consumer sentiment, the Hair and Nail Salons industry held steady against the recession. Over the five years to 2012, IBISWorld estimates that revenue has increased at an average annual rate of 2.0% to an estimated $ 46.4 billion. In addition to standard haircuts, many salons offer facials, hair modification treatments like perms and straightening, massages and deluxe manicures and pedicures. According to IBISWorld industry analyst Caitlin Moldvay, with persistent and widespread unemployment during the period, consumers were less willing to spend on these high-value discretionary services, opting for basic haircut services. Consumers also decreased their number of salon visits, stretching out the time between appointments. These changes in purchasing patterns caused revenue to dip slightly during the recession. However, declining unemployment and a slew of new products and services in more recent years have favorably impacted industry revenue, causing demand for hair and nail salon services to rebound modestly and grow by an estimated 2.8% in 2012.

The Hair and Nail Salons industry is highly fragmented, dominated by nonemployers or small businesses spread across many locations to be close to key consumer markets in high-traffic locations. Over the past five years, companies have continued to enter the industry, attracted by its stable consumer base and low barriers to entry. For example, an industry operator can simply be a hair stylist or nail technician that rents a booth from a hair or nail salon. As such, enterprise growth has remained strong, despite a drop in consumer sentiment and slowdown in spending, says Moldvay.

Economic conditions are anticipated to improve over the five years to 2017, with industry revenue forecast to increase at an average annual rate of 3.6% to $ 55.4 billion. Declining unemployment during the period is expected to drive per capita disposable income growth. Equipped with larger budgets, consumers will likely favor professional salon products and services over the cheaper alternatives sold at drugstores. Meanwhile, environmental concerns are expected to become more prevalent over the next five years, which will lead salons to offer a wider array of eco-friendly products that appeal to emerging consumer preferences. Hair Loss Treatment and Removal in the US Industry Market Research Report from IBISWorld has Been Updated

Los Angeles, CA (PRWEB) January 21, 2013

The Hair Loss Treatment and Removal industry provides consumers with a variety of procedures and treatments that address many hair care needs. Over the five years to 2012, revenue expected to grow an average 0.4% annually to $ 551.1 million, including a 1.5% increase in 2012 alone after a slight dip during the recession. Hair treatment centers can attribute this growth to the rising emphasis consumers have placed on physical appearance. This focus has transitioned industry services from purely cosmetic, discretionary treatments to procedures necessary for general personal upkeep. Aging males seeking hair loss treatment and females seeking hair removal services dominate industry demand, says IBISWorld industry analyst David Yang. These markets, along with modifications to the way hair care centers operate their businesses, helped keep the industry afloat during the recession.

Over the past five years, hair care centers have adapted to the widening availability of more effective forms of treatment. For example, hair loss treatment companies have been championing nonsurgical hair replacement techniques that provide consumers with real human hair weaved in between their existing follicles. Hair removal centers have also benefited from significant technological advancements, adds Yang. Many removal clinics now advocate laser removal methods and other forms of electrolysis as the most effective treatment. Profit margins slightly declined, however, as competition intensified and firms lowered prices to attract customers during the recession. Hair loss treatment and hair restoration is a very large business sector and mostly fragmented, with small, private operators. However, most hair restoration operations are surgical procedures and accounted for in the healthcare sector. The non-surgical Hair Loss Treatment and Removal industry is dominated by three major players (Regis Corporation, Ideal Image Development Inc. and American Laser Skincare), resulting in a medium level of market share concentration.

The Hair Loss Treatment and Removal industry is projected to grow over the next five years. The widening acceptance of hair loss treatment procedures and laser removal technology will boost industry revenue. Profit will also improve as increasing disposable income spurs demand for higher-margin medications and treatment procedures. In addition, hair care centers will began expanding their target markets in hopes of boosting sales. Gender lines will be blurred as more males use hair removal procedures and more women undergo hair loss treatments. Finally, demand from adults over the age of 50, the industry's most stable market, will also increase. The population will continue to age and the number of adults in this age group will eclipse 112 million people by 2017. All of these factors will contribute to steady growth for the industry over the next five years. Global Cosmetics Manufacturing Industry Market Research Report from IBISWorld has Been Updated

Los Angeles, CA (PRWEB) March 25, 2013

The Global Cosmetics Manufacturing industry is a dynamic one, characterized by a high degree of innovation and the introduction of new and reformulated products. The past five years have been no exception, despite declining per capita disposable income in key consumer markets. Due to consumers' tightened purse strings, industry revenue grew only 1.5% in 2009, the midst of the global recession. Profit also suffered as shoppers opted for lower-priced personal care products. The mounting focus on naturally derived toiletries has also underpinned industry performance over the past five years. Operators have responded to changing consumer preferences for chemical-free cosmetics formulas by introducing and reformulating popular products like shampoos and lotions, says IBISWorld industry analyst Radia Amari. Global cosmetics manufacturers are also focusing on natural makeup options, a growing industry segment. Developing natural makeup products has been difficult because of different challenges like pigment load and ease of application; however, new technologies are emerging that are eliminating some of these challenges.

Demand from emerging economies and aspirational shoppers has also kept the Global Cosmetics Manufacturing industry growing over the past five years, with revenue increases averaging 3.0% per year to reach $ 243.0 billion by the end of 2013. Industry operators have consistently expanded their portfolios to cater to underserved markets, where average incomes are well below the average product price, adds Amari. Moreover, to capture the growing aspirational shopper market (i.e. consumers on a budget seeking designer purchases), firms have integrated high-end cosmetic brands under their umbrellas. IBISWorld expects these efforts, along with improving economic conditions, will drive industry growth during 2013, with revenue increasing 2.4%.

In 2013, IBISWorld estimates that the industry has a moderate level of concentration. Industry concentration has gradually increased over the past five years, in line with acquisitions, whereby large multinational corporations acquire smaller companies. Merger and acquisition (M&A) deals of interest over the past decade that have served to change the face of the industrys landscape include major player Procter & Gamble's $ 57.0 billion takeover of Gillette, L'Oreal's acquisition of the Body Shop, the purchases of Kanebo and Molton Brown by Japanese-based Kao, and Coty's acquisition of Unilever's fragrance division. Other key drivers underlying the ongoing spate of M&A activity include the expansion of geographic footprints, diversification into new product categories or market segments and the exploitation of new technologies, including novel delivery systems and new greener technologies and processes.

As per capita disposable income rebounds more strongly over the five years to 2018, the industry will experience even stronger growth. Armed with deeper pockets, consumers especially those in developed markets will be more willing and able to spend on higher-priced products, leading to higher average profit margins for operators. Additionally, players' efforts to cater to emerging economies will also continue to pay off, further boosting industry growth.
