Omega XL Reports New Independent Study: Low-mercury fish reduce heart attack risk

Mercury levels in fish have long been an ongoing concern for many consumers. To quantify the risk of mercury in fish, a joint team of researchers out of Sweden and Finland have conducted a study aimed at creating a risk-benefit model that would shed light on the risk of mercury consumption, versus the value of omega-3 fatty acids - such as found in Omega XL- which have been linked to everything from heart health to cognitive function, improved eyesight and inflammatory joint pain relief.

The study, published in the October issue of the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition, examined mercury levels and omega-3 concentrations in the hair and blood samples of 361 Swedish men and 211 men from Finland, all of whom had suffered from a heart attack.

While methyl mercury in fish may, indeed, pose a health risk, even a small increase in fish consumption was found to prevent 7 percent of heart attacks in men, as long as mercury levels remained low.

The obvious conclusion to the study is to eat small fish and avoid large predatory species that contain a lot more mercury than smaller ones. Nevertheless, mercury is still present in smaller fish, only to a lesser degree than bigger fish. Prograde Metabo 223x Weight Loss Supplement Successful in Independent Study

Metabox 223x, the newest weight loss supplement released by Prograde Nutrition, was touted in its marketing as being science-based and effective. Now an independent study published last week in The Journal of the International Society of Sports Medicine (JISSN), confirms that it works.

The study was carried out using a placebo-controlled, double-blind setup, and aimed to test both the safety and efficacy of Metabo 223x. The study used obese but otherwise healthy adult men and women. The result was that the group using Metabo 223x lost more weight total, lost more fat mass, built more lean muscle mass, reduced hip and waist girth, and reported higher energy levels. No adverse health effects were observed.

The study subjects paired the supplement with healthy diet and exercise, and the results for those who used the supplement were better than those who used the same exercise and diet alone. According to the study abstract, this is a level of testing that few natural health products undergo.

Prograde's director of research, Registered Dietitian Jayson Hunter, says he is not surprised by the results.

We did extensive testing of our own and we refuse to release a weight loss product unless it works, Hunter said. Most weight loss supplements rely on individual ingredient research only and don't do trials on the completed or full formula, let alone double-blind placebo-controlled trials. We care about safety and efficacy of the completed formula.

The recipe for Metabo 223x includes eight natural ingredients that Hunter says have been shown independently to help with weight loss and energy levels, but Prograde wanted to know that the finished product had the desired result.

The reason most health companies don't do this kind of testing is because it's expensive, he said. We invested in the research because we're a company founded by trainers. Real results are what matter.
