Dr. Sam Speron Sees A Growing Trend of the Reverse Liposuction Procedure

Park Ridge, IL (PRWEB) April 02, 2013

An increasingly popular yet still under-the-radar cosmetic procedure is reverse liposuction which is an alternative for women who are undergoing breast implant removal. The procedure consists of exchanging breast implants for fat cells that are taken from the patients own body. The natural fat cells are used for reshaping of the breasts, creating volume, and a natural shape. The technique is referred to as simultaneous implant exchange with fat (SIEF).

Prior to surgery, the patient must undergo pre-expansion treatments. Gentle negative pressure is used through a vacuum to slowly expand the breast. This prepares the breast for the surgical procedure. During the surgery, liposuction is performed on thighs or abdomen to harvest fat cells. The fat is then injected into the space over the implants so the surgeon may sculpt and reshape the breast using the patients own fat cells. The implants are then removed and additional fat is injected. This may all be accomplished within one procedure but can usually require several procedures for repeat fat injection.

Reverse liposuction is a great alternative for women who plan to undergo implant removal but still want to maintain natural volume for their breast shape says Dr. Sam Speron, Chicago breast plastic surgeon and consumer advocate. It is a procedure that I feel will continually increase in occurrence due to the positive results that patients report. It can be performed with our without the breast expansion devices.

Dr. Sam Speron Reveals New Minimally Invasive In-Office Options for Cellulite Removal

Park Ridge, IL (PRWEB) May 07, 2013

Dr. Sam Speron Reveals New Minimally Invasive In-Office Options for Cellulite Removal.

Cellulite is a term to describe superficial pockets of trapped fat which cause uneven dimpling. Contrary to popular belief, cellulite is not related to obesity and affects all body types and sizes. It is estimated that over 80% of women over the age of 20 have cellulite.

Cellulite treatment options vary from more holistic approaches to medical procedures that target cellulite such as laser, Velasmooth, liposuction, fat injections and cellulite release. It has been found that exercise and a diet rich in fiber, fruits, and vegetables helps reduce cellulite. Exercise is helpful for reducing cellulite by increasing blood circulation, building muscle tone, and reducing body fat.

When opting for popular cellulite creams, it is best to get those that contain retinols as they improve skin texture to lessen the cellulite appearance. Medical devices that are known for being somewhat effective are Velasmooth and laser treatments. Velasmooth uses combined energy of bi-polar radio frequency and infrared light to reduce the appearance of cellulite. Laser cellulite removal is a popular non-surgical procedure which stimulates the breakdown of fat and cellulite.

"Cellulite is very common among women of many different body types," says Dr. Sam Speron, Chicago plastic surgeon and consumer advocate. "There are several non-surgical medical treatment options as well as surgical options such as cellulite release with possible fat injections. I always advise a personal consultation but usually an in-office procedure done under local anesthesia without scars is helpful to release the cellulite for most patients!"

Park Ridge, IL (PRWEB) May 31, 2013

Exparel is a local analgesic that is used during surgical procedures and relieves pain for up to 72 hours. The procedure consists of administration at the close of cosmetic surgery. There is no need for catheters or pumps when using Exparel and there is also a reduction of opioid and narcotic requirements.

Follow up recommendations includes the prescribing of oxycodone or acetaminophen tablets. It has also been found that the administration of Exparel does not add any significant time when compared to using an elastomeric pump.

Clinical trials have found that patients awaken from surgery without any pain, are able to go home after two hours and feel comfortable after receiving Exparel, says Dr. Sam Speron, Chicago plastic surgeon.

Side effects of Exparel that were found in clinical trials may be nausea, constipation, and vomiting.

Dr Sam Speron Reveals Thoughts on Breast Cancer & Angelina Jolie

Park Ridge, IL (PRWEB) June 11, 2013

Dr Sam Speron reveals thoughts on Breast cancer & Angelina Jolie.

Breast cancer is the most frequently occurring cancer and is the second most prominent cause of death for women all over the world. Breast cancer has been a major health concern for women all over the world. This disease is not exclusive to women; men can also develop breast cancer as well. In society today, magazine stands have been lined with covers publicizing stories about breast cancer. The whole month of October has become a seasonal reminder and dedication to breast cancer awareness.

Breast cancer is a malignant tumor that begins in the cells of the breasts. This is a collection of cancer cells that can grow into surrounding tissues and can spread to distant areas of the body. There are multiple factors that can be a risk for breast cancer such as inherited genetic mutations, family history of breast cancer, age and specifically for women, menstrual history, breast feeding history and late pregnancy. Studies continue to discover lifestyle factors and habits that alter breast cancer risk for instance obesity, smoking and alcohol consumption.

Gratefully in the age that we currently live in, there are sufficient screening technologies including digital mammograms and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) that aid in the detection of breast cancer before it starts to cause symptoms.

It is important to have the knowledge of this disease as well as who is at greatest risk. Having these facts can help prevent the premature loss of those who love and care for us, notes Dr. Sam Speron, breast plastic surgeon and consumer advocate. Breast cancer reconstruction should be offered to most women undergoing breast cancer surgery although not all of them are candidates for reconstruction.

The one reason breast cancer gets more than its fair share of attention in the media today is due to the countless efforts of breast cancer activists and celebrities who themselves have announced publicly their own fight and struggle for the disease. One of the more known celebrities, Angelina Jolie, recently announced that she made a choice to have a double mastectomy due to a genetic screening test. This test determined that she is carrying a mutation of the BRCA1 gene, which increases her risks of developing ovarian or breast cancer. Jolies doctors explained that due to this genetic mutation, they estimated that she had a 50% risk of ovarian cancer and 87% risk of breast cancer. Mastectomy is surgery to remove the entire breast. All of the breast tissue is removed, sometimes along with other nearby tissues. In Angelina Jolies case, this procedure will help lower her risk to less than 5%.

Once I knew that this was my reality, I decided to be proactive and to minimize the risk as much I could. I made a decision to have a preventive double mastectomy," Jolie stated to the media. Her aunt and mother had passed away after being diagnosed with breast cancer due to this same genetic mutation. Angelina Jolie was impelled by a desire to encourage other women to get genetically tested and raise awareness of the options available to those at risk.

Being one of the most admired celebrities in the world, publicizing this news may have encouraged other women to stand up and do the same, added board certified plastic surgeon Dr. Sam Speron. Breast reconstruction can help restore the look and feel of the breast after a mastectomy. Although a reconstructed breast may not match the look or feel of your natural breast, it can help you feel more comfortable about the way you look.
