Dr. Sam Speron Sees A Growing Trend of the Reverse Liposuction Procedure

Park Ridge, IL (PRWEB) April 02, 2013

An increasingly popular yet still under-the-radar cosmetic procedure is reverse liposuction which is an alternative for women who are undergoing breast implant removal. The procedure consists of exchanging breast implants for fat cells that are taken from the patients own body. The natural fat cells are used for reshaping of the breasts, creating volume, and a natural shape. The technique is referred to as simultaneous implant exchange with fat (SIEF).

Prior to surgery, the patient must undergo pre-expansion treatments. Gentle negative pressure is used through a vacuum to slowly expand the breast. This prepares the breast for the surgical procedure. During the surgery, liposuction is performed on thighs or abdomen to harvest fat cells. The fat is then injected into the space over the implants so the surgeon may sculpt and reshape the breast using the patients own fat cells. The implants are then removed and additional fat is injected. This may all be accomplished within one procedure but can usually require several procedures for repeat fat injection.

Reverse liposuction is a great alternative for women who plan to undergo implant removal but still want to maintain natural volume for their breast shape says Dr. Sam Speron, Chicago breast plastic surgeon and consumer advocate. It is a procedure that I feel will continually increase in occurrence due to the positive results that patients report. It can be performed with our without the breast expansion devices.

Dr. Speron is the founder and medical director of Dr. Speron Plastic Surgery, SC. He is board certified with the American Board of Plastic Surgery and an active member of both the American Society of Plastic Surgeons (ASPS) and American Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgeons (ASAPS).

American Society for Dermatologic Surgery Reports Skin Cancer Treatments As #1 Procedure of 2012

San Diego, CA (PRWEB) May 24, 2013

According to recent reports from the American Society of Dermatologic Surgery, skin cancer treatments topped the list of the most performed procedures in 2012 with more than 2.7 million treatments carried out. Laser and light procedures proved to be the second most popular with 1.5 million treatments, followed by neurotoxin injections and soft tissue fillers. Though 2012s data is quite similar to the year previous, President-Elect, Mitchel P. Goldman, MD, believes that 2013 may bring new changes to the data in several ways.

The data presented by the ASDS gives us a great insight into trends and allows us to make predictions about the year ahead, said board certified dermatologist and cosmetic surgeon Dr. Goldman. One of the more interesting statistics of the survey depicted only 8% of patients that underwent soft tissue fillers in 2012 were males. As director of the landmark dermatology center Goldman, Butterwick, Fitzpatrick, Groff & Fabi in San Diego, I absolutely believe that this number will increase in 2013. At my practice, Ive noticed more and more males seeking facial rejuvenation than ever before.

The American Society of Dermatologic Surgery is a unique organization representing dermatologic surgeons in the United States whom are leaders and experts in their field. With over 5,700 hundred members across the country, the ASDS strives to produce excellence and promote education in the field of dermatologic surgery through the development of new treatments, extensive research, and clinical trials. Dr. Goldman is no exception, having pioneered both laser and light-based treatments as well as the 6th most popular treatment of 2012, sclerotherapy for the treatment of unwanted leg, chest and hand veins.

Sclerotherapy is another procedure that we continue to see increase every year. Its an extremely safe and effective treatment for leg veins, and as more people learn about how easy it is to actually undergo the non-invasive injections, dermatologists will continue to treat more patients experiencing unwanted spider veins, said Dr. Goldman.

At GBFG&F in San Diego, Dr. Goldman helps his patients overcome a wide variety of cosmetic and medically necessary dermatologic procedures, from Botox for wrinkles to Photodynamic therapy for the treatment of precancerous lesions. With summer quickly approaching, Dr. Goldman hopes his patients will actively remember the importance of skin cancer prevention with sunscreen.

Skin cancer is completely avoidable, and its important that people understand the necessity of always wearing sunscreen. It only takes a few moments to apply before heading outside, and aside from its anti-aging benefits, it could save your life, said expert dermatologist Mitchel P. Goldman, MD.

Goldman, Butterwick, Fitzpatrick, Groff & Fabi: Cosmetic Laser Dermatology is a world-renowned aesthetic center in San Diego, California made up of five internationally distinguished skin care experts, including Mitchel P. Goldman, MD, Kimberly Butterwick, MD, Richard Fitzpatrick, MD, William Groff, DO, and Sabrina Fabi, MD. Dr. Robert Langdon of Guilford, CT, to Appear on WTNHs Connecticut Style to Discuss Scar-Less Breast Reduction Procedure

Guilford, CT (PRWEB) November 21, 2012

Robert Langdon, MD, Board-Certified Cosmetic Surgeon and Dermatologist and Medical Director at The Langdon Center for Laser & Cosmetic Surgery will be on WTNHs Connecticut Style news program to discuss his scar-less breast reduction procedure.

Dr. Langdon states, Patients who have long suffered from overly large breasts are delighted to learn that they can significantly reduce breast size without surgery. I perform this liposuction procedure with only tiny incisions that do not even require stitches.

According to Dr. Langdon, the Scar-Less breast reduction is done in the office, with only a local anesthetic, and patients are back to their normal routines within days.

Because larger breasts are mostly composed of fat tissue, a modified liposuction technique can result in significant size reduction. Tumescent anesthetic solution is used to thoroughly (and painlessly) numb the breasts. Then, Dr. Langdon performs liposuction using tiny micro-cannulas throughout the breast. The micro-cannulas are blunt, tube-like instruments that Dr. Langdon gently moves back and forth within the numbed area. Recovery is rapid after the procedure. The small skin incisions heal with little or no scarring, in contrast to the significant scars that result from conventional breast reduction surgery. The breasts contract after the procedure, resulting in a lift effect.

I look forward to discussing this procedure on WTNH in December. This is a great way to spread the word that breast reduction need not involve invasive surgery and a long recovery period, said Dr. Langdon.

Increasing Demand for FUE Procedure in 2013 at Beverly Hills Hair Transplant Clinic

Beverly Hills, CA (PRWEB) April 11, 2013

As innovations in surgical techniques continue to advance, there has been a significant focus on achieving natural results with minimal to zero scarring. This is true at Beverly Hills Hair Restoration in Los Angeles, California. Medical Director Dr. John Kahen M.D. says his patients are even starting to request certain techniques.

This means patients are doing their research, which is a positive direction for hair restoration, says the medical director. Follicular Unit Extraction is in higher demand now more than ever as patients learn the FUE technique results in the least amount of scarring in the donor hair area where the grafts are extracted.

Dr. Kahen mentions there may be one drawback to this increasing demand, saying that not every person is an ideal candidate for the FUE technique. "For patients that need a certain number of grafts or for patients with certain hair textures, Strip Harvesting is a more favorable technique."

In Strip Harvest, a strip of skin is removed from the back of the scalp. The grafts are then dissected into follicular units of anywhere from one to our hairs per graft - and then transplanted to the recipient area. In Follicular Unit Extraction, the follicular grafts are extracted one by one and then transplanted. The fact that FUE is such a specialized and detailed technique is one of the reasons patients seek it out so specifically, he notes.

Follicular Unit Extraction was first successfully performed in 1989 in Australia by Dr. Ray Woods using a 1 mm needle. Dr. Kahen specializes in creating incisions with micro-blades of less than one millimeter in diameter - making the incisions smaller and, as they heal, virtually undetectable.

Utah Plastic Surgeon Dr. Scott Haupt of Utah Cosmetic Surgery Introduces New Teardrop Breast Augmentation Procedure

Salt Lake City, Utah (PRWEB) May 13, 2013

Dr. Scott Haupt, one of Utah's most experienced plastic surgeons, recently introduced the new FDA-approved "teardrop" breast augmentation procedure at his Murray, Utah practice. These new silicone-fill breast implants approved by the FDA in early 2013 provide breast augmentation for patients seeking a more natural look than traditional round implants. Dr. Haupt is one of the first surgeons in Utah to offer this procedure.

Also commonly referred to as "gummy bear" silicone implants, the structure of the silicone gel gives the implant a better shape. Contrary to round silicone breast implants, the teardrop shape still allows for augmentation of the breast without altering its natural shape.

"Not all of our patients looking for breast enlargement want it to be obvious by the shape of their breasts that they've undergone an augmentation procedure," said Dr. Scott Haupt of Utah Cosmetic Surgery. "The teardrop shape of these newly-approved silicone implants allows our patients to get the figure they want without sacrificing shape."

While the teardrop implants provide a more anatomical shape, it requires a skilled surgeon to place them correctly. Proper placement requires the implant to be texturize so that it adheres in the breast tissue pocket accurately and doesn't shift or rotate.

"Our new teardrop breast implants are a great option for many women, but they may not be a good option for certain builds or body types," said Dr. Haupt. "It's important that those interested in these implants consult with a skilled surgeon first to get their expert option on the type of implants that will best compliment their look."

Dr. Haupt has performed more than 7,000 surgical procedures during his experience as a Utah plastic surgeon. He has been featured in Forbes and Newsweek magazines as one of the finest plastic surgeons in the country. He completed his plastic surgery residency at the University Of Utah School Of Medicine and frequently consults with other physicians and nurse practitioners on difficult cases.

In addition to breast augmentation procedures, Dr. Haupt also specializes in body reconstruction, facial plastic surgery, liposuction, and other cosmetic procedures. His staff at Utah Cosmetic Surgery also provides laser hair removal and skin care services.

Successful Gastric Bypass Procedure Performed by Dr. Nilesh Patel Results in Weight-Loss Breakthrough in Patients Small Town

San Antonio, TX (PRWEB) April 02, 2013

Dr. Nilesh A. Patel of Texas Bariatric Specialists is pleased to announce that the Gastric Bypass surgery performed on Ima Bruce of Eldorado, TX was so extraordinary that he has received numerous patient referrals from her town wanting the same successful results. Becoming an inspiration to her small town was never something that Ima Bruce expected to be, that is, until she began dropping sizes weekly following a successful Gastric Bypass Procedure in 2008. Since then, Ima has helped people in her town on their own weight-loss journey.

As a child, Ima and her sister were always chubby little girls but she slimmed down when she was an active teenager. After her marriage and childbirth, her weight began to increase. She weighed 200 lbs when she had her son and eventually went up to 240 lbs. In between, Ima tried to bring down her weight with crash diets, but the forty-five pounds she lost never stayed off long before coming back with a vengeance. That was when Ima began to research different weight loss options, particularly after a friend of hers had a lap band procedure and lost a lot of weight.

Before diving into Lap Band research, Ima contacted her insurance carrier to ask how much this type of procedure would cost and if it would be covered. Once she found out that she would be covered, Ima began searching for the perfect Bariatric Surgeon. She searched Lap Band online and looked at multiple Surgeons, but chose Dr. Nilesh Patel quickly. In 2006 he was voted best Bariatric Surgeon so that sold me and once I met him, I never would have gone to anyone else, Ima stated. Dr. Patel even sees my friend who had health problems with a weight-loss procedure from another surgeon and she is a big fan of Dr. Patel, too.

When Ima saw Dr. Patel, she felt reassured when he explained that the Lap Band wasnt the best fit for her. Dr. Patel recommended that Ima have a Gastric Bypass Procedure. She trusted his advice and experience and once she completed the pre-operative requirements from Dr. Patel, Ima found her insurance approved her for the Gastric Bypass Procedure. I am almost doing cart-wheels in my office You cannot believe how happy you made me! Ima recalls telling her Insurance Advocate upon hearing of her approval.

After the Gastric Bypass Procedure, Ima lost weight quickly. When people asked if I had problems following the surgery, I told them I havent had one problem! She read the material Dr. Patel gave her prior to her surgery multiple times and told them, if you follow Dr. Patels instructions then you wont have any problems, she assured everyone. Ima also noticed that people were doing double-takes of her at the grocery store. I was changing sizes weekly!

Her huge weight-loss success made her an inspiration in her town and she gladly answers any questions her friends asked her regarding her procedure. Dr. Patel has performed five weight-loss procedures on patients from my town. I feel Im responsible for that so it keeps me on track with keeping my weight off, said Ima.

In one year, Ima lost a total of 97 lbs. I know between God, Tuna, and Dr. Patel - that was it! She also keeps the card her son and daughter-in-law gave her after her surgery. I still have that card five years later she recalls, It says, To a New Beginning.

Patients Migraines Disappear after Remarkable Gastric Sleeve Procedure Performed by Dr. Nilesh Patel of Texas Bariatric Specialists

San Antonio, TX (PRWEB) April 23, 2013

Dr. Nilesh A. Patel of Texas Bariatric Specialists is pleased to announce that the extraordinary bariatric surgery procedure of a gastric sleeve performed on Heather Durand of Del Rio, TX was such a success that Heathers frequent migraines have dramatically decreased and she is completely off her migraine medication. Additionally, drinking 80 ounces of Dr. Pepper a day didnt seem strange to Heather Durand. She was accustomed to drinking two Route-44 drinks full of Dr. Pepper a day without a second thought. As a child, her metabolism kept her thin but her fail-proof metabolism didnt work forever and, after having two sons, her weight ballooned to 272 lbs. Feeling depressed, she began diet and exercise programs to lose the weight, but after many failed attempts at both weight watchers online and face to face, working out, and rationing her food portions, she gave up.

At 272 lbs, Heather began to stop caring about her weight. It took her 6 months of feeling depressed and unattractive before she began searching for different weight loss options. A few good friends of hers had decided on bariatric surgery, and all were very pleased with their surgeon, Dr. Patel. I know I was meant to have surgery with Dr. Patel, Heather recalled. After going to her Primary Care Physician, he also referred her to Dr. Patel without her even mentioning his name! She decided there was no reason to research any other Bariatric Surgeons; she knew it was meant to be.

Attending the free weight loss seminar was very helpful. Heather spoke with Dr. Patels PA-C, James Houston, at the seminar. Together, they decided the best bariatric surgery procedure for her would be a Gastric Sleeve because shed be able to continue eating one of her favorite foods venison. That was the deciding factor, Heather laughs, being able to still eat deer meat. When she met Dr. Patel, she was very pleased that he trusted James Houstons decision for the Gastric Sleeve Procedure. Dr. Patel was very competent and he had a lot of faith in James. She also was convinced a Gastric Sleeve was the best bariatric surgery for her because she needed a personal drill sergeant in my body. The Sleeve would help her overcome sugary snacks and her favorite unhealthy craving Dr. Pepper.

Throughout the entire pre-operative process, Heather was very confident that this procedure was right for her. The only time I was worried was when I was hooked up to the IV at the hospital, but I fell asleep so quickly that there was no chance to rethink it. Now, post-bariatric surgery, Heather agrees that getting the Gastric Sleeve was the, best thing Ive done in my life! No longer does she indulge on Dr. Pepper, and her body now craves crystal light and water, and she has dropped 18 pant sizes. My entire family is benefitting from my surgery, Heather says. She has created more structure in her familys eating routine and their entire diet has improved.

Finally, after losing a large amount of weight, Heathers frequent migraines declined dramatically. She used to take migraine medications and learned from her Neurologist that weight loss reduces migraines. Today, she is completely off her migraine medication. Heather even enjoys shopping for new clothes and looking in the mirror. I used to have long hair to hide my full face, but now I cut it off to show off my cheekbones, she says. I feel like me again!

SAGES Issues Statement on Benefits of Laparoscopic Obesity Surgery - Governor Chris Christies Decision to Undergo Procedure Provides Opportunity to Educate Patients

Los Angeles, CA (PRWEB) May 10, 2013

Committed to enhancing overall patient well-being, the Society of American Gastrointestinal and Endoscopic Surgeons (SAGES) today issued a statement on the benefits of laparoscopic obesity surgery. We echo the NIH consensus that weight loss surgery is the only effective long term method for the treatment of obesity while diet management and other systems achieve temporary results, said Dr. Scott Melvin, Professor and Chief of Gastrointestinal Surgery at Ohio State University and the immediate past President of SAGES. For the right patients, surgery for obesity is life saving, improves quality of life and may even reduce health care costs over the course of time. New Jersey Governor Chris Christies decision to share his experience has provided a valuable opportunity for patients to educate themselves and dialogue with their physicians on such minimally invasive surgical (MIS) procedures, Dr. Melvin said.

SAGES has been at the forefront of best practices in laparoscopic obesity surgery by researching, developing and disseminating the guidelines and training for standards of practice in surgical procedures. Both open and laparoscopic bariatric operations are effective therapies for morbid obesity and represent complementary state-of-the-art procedures however as is the case with a majority of MIS procedures, recovery is generally faster with MIS and there are less complications.

Patients are encouraged to review the SAGES Patient Information Guidelines for Laparoscopic Surgery for Severe (Morbid) Obesity at http://www.sages.org/publications/patient_information to learn about treatment options, the advantages of laparoscopic obesity surgery and if they would be considered as a candidate for this type of surgery.

About SAGES

The mission of the Society of American Gastrointestinal and Endoscopic Surgeons (SAGES) is to improve quality patient care through education, research, innovation and leadership, principally in gastrointestinal and endoscopic surgery. SAGES is a leading surgical society, representing a worldwide community of over 6,000 surgeons that can bring minimal access surgery, endoscopy and emerging techniques to patients worldwide. The organization sets the clinical and educational guidelines on standards of practice in various procedures, critical to enhancing patient safety and health.
