Sara Moulton Talks Supermarket Fraud and Honey on the Rachael Ray Show Monday, April 22

New York, NY (PRWEB) April 19, 2013

Sara Moulton will be on The Rachael Ray Show, talking about supermarket fraud Monday, April 22. Viewers will learn what to watch out for when they go shopping so they dont get duped and one of the subjects they will cover is honey.

An investigation conducted by Food Safety News (FSN) revealed that more than 75% of so-called honey sold at grocery stores, big box stores, drug stores, and restaurants in the United States did not contain any pollen, which means it is not real honey, said Mary Ross of The Mohawk Valley Trading Company where they specialize in varietal honey.

Varietal honey is made primarily from the nectar of a particular type of blossom or flower. To capture the unique character and flavor of the blossom or flower, beekeepers must study botanical bloom and flowering patterns when planning hive placement.

In addition, Ross continued, the recent admission of two of the largest honey suppliers in the United States in their involvement in smuggling and mislabeling honey from China is testament to the fact that the only way to guarantee that consumers are getting pure honey is to buy directly from reputable honey purveyors.

Honey Holding, doing business as Honey Solutions, of Baytown, Texas, and defendant Groeb Farms, Inc., of Onsted, Michigan, two of the largest honey suppliers in the United States, have both entered into deferred prosecution agreements with the government, subject to court approval, with Honey Holding agreeing to pay a $ 1 million fine and Groeb Farms agreeing to the payment of a $ 2 million fine. Both companies have agreed to implement corporate compliance programs as part of their respective agreements, according to the United States Attorney Office, Northern District of Illinois (http://www.justice.gov/usao/iln/pr/chicago/2013/pr0220_02.html). The cases are United States v. Douglas A. Murphy and Honey Holding I, 13 CR 138 and United States v. Groeb Farms, Inc., 13 CR 137, United States District Court, Northern District of Illinois.

Honey has been used by humans since ancient times for its health benefits and as a sweetener and flavoring for many foods and beverages, with tea being the most popular. Next to maple syrup, it is the most popular natural sweetener in North America.

Honey bees make honey by collecting nectar from flowers and regurgitating it into beeswax honeycombs inside their hive. Beeswax is a natural wax produced in the hive of honey bees of the genus Apis and one of its most popular uses is beeswax candles and as an ingredient in natural skin care products.

The flavor and color of honey is determined by the type of flower the bees gather the nectar from. Therefore, when cooking or baking with honey, it is a good idea to taste the honey before using it in a recipe. For example, a dark honey like tulip poplar-black locust honey will result in a strong, heavy, pungent flavor, whereas orange blossom honey will result in a delicate orange flavor. Dark-colored honey is considered to be higher in minerals and antioxidants than light-colored honey and one of the most well-known dark-colored honeys is buckwheat honey. Raw buckwheat honey contains a higher amount of minerals and an antioxidant called polyphenol, which gives it its dark color. The health benefits of buckwheat honey are many and well-known.

If you are planning to buy honey for its health benefits, it must be raw honey. Heating honey (pasteurization) destroys the all of the pollen, enzymes, propolis, vitamins, amino acids, antioxidants, minerals, and aromatics. Honey that has been heated and filtered is called commercial, regular or liquid honey. The rawest honey available is comb honey which is sections of the hexagonal-shaped beeswax cells of the honeycomb that contain raw honey that have been cut from the wooden frames of a beehive.

Using raw honey is a long-term investment strategy for optimal health and personal care; the dividends are overall mental, physical and spiritual well-being. Like a blue chip stock, raw honey should be included in any health-conscious consumers immune system boosting portfolio and the return on investment of substituting honey for refined sugar in the human diet is incalculable.

Pure honey is kosher since kosher honey must be 100% honey with no additives or dilutions, and to get the best price when buying large quantities of honey, look for a company that sells bulk or wholesale honey.

Organic honey from the United States is a myth because the country is too developed and uses too many agricultural and industrial chemicals to for the production of organic honey. Honey bees are free-roaming, wild creatures and it is impossible to guarantee that, while foraging, they have not come in contact with prohibited substances, like pesticides.

Another product made by honey bees and used by humans is bee propolis. Propolis is a resinous substance that honey bees collect from tree buds and bark or other botanical sources and mixed with beeswax, nectar and pollen. This mixture is used by bees to seal gaps in the hive and by humans for its health benefits and as a traditional, natural or homeopathic medicine.

The Mohawk Valley Trading Company offers the highest quality unprocessed natural products they can produce namely; maple syrup, honey, beeswax and natural personal care products. In addition, they offer natural stone, tea and spices from around the world.

Carib Sales, Inc. Hosts Their Annual Trade Show

Opa-Locka, FL (PRWEB) April 09, 2013

Starting in February, Carib Sales began emptying and cleaning their warehouse in preparation for their annual trade show on the 27th. A three-day event, Carib Sales invited vendors and merchandisers to the warehouse to get acquainted with their sales representatives and to introduce them to the new and exciting ethnic health and beauty products they provide. They also featured their new system for taking and executing orders.

Representatives from Unilever, J. Strickland, Soft Sheen-Carson, Universal Products, Bic Corporation, Johnson & Johnson, LOreal Techniques as well as Concept II, E.T. Browne (Palmers Products), and many others held booths at the Carib Sales Event on February 27, featuring new product lines to sample.

Larry OMalley from J. Strickland, the makers of Blue Magic, Nadinola, Five Star, and Doo Gro said, The Carib show is one we look forward to all year long. It has tremendous opportunities for all of our brands, especially the Blue Magic Brand and now with the addition of Doo Gro we look forward to even greater shows in the future.

Originally, when customers wanted to place an order at the trade show, they would have to flip through a book that resembled a price list with no images, write down their order, and turn in the book when leaving. The post-processing of orders from the event took at least two weeks for Carib Sales to manage, with orders and POs finalized afterward.

However, at their 2013 trade show, Carib Sales introduced a new system of taking and fulfilling orders. A multiplatform website featuring shopping cart technology, all of the information for the almost 6,000 in-stock items was available to customers along with images and special deals that were valid the day of the show.

The turnaround time for processing orders was significantly reduced, taking only three days, which made it possible to finalize orders the very next day for individual customers. The turnaround for POs improved to less than a week, making it possible for vendors to start receiving their orders faster than ever before.

Alex Ceratto, the Marketing Director at Carib Sales said, The ease of use of the new electronic ordering system introduced at this years trade show, the friendly interface and ability to find any item quickly, and the addition of product pictures right on the screen made this system the best way to place and process orders. It also significantly reduces our turnaround time on processing and fulfilling orders. I believe that in time this will be the adopted standard in the industry.

Tara Coleman, the IBC Channel Manager for Unilever said, This years Carib show was great! The implementation of electronic order taking was an excellent idea; not only to streamline the ordering process, but to also advise customers and manufacturers up front of order quantities and values. No more waiting to identify show sales! She also asked Carib Sales to keep up the good work!

Moderation and Common Sense is the Key to Living Well, States New BioGirl Health Show

Michigan (PRWEB) May 05, 2013

Following the health routines and advice Carol dispenses on the BioGirl Health Show on Spreaker Radio show at 1pm every Friday should also result in an improved appearance in terms of a glowing skin, shining eyes and healthy looking hair, she maintains, as well as a boost in confidence and improved feeling of well-being.

Carol, now in her 40s, has been following a natural lifestyle since the age of 16. But then she always had good teachers - as the Michigan mum reveals in her latest show which discusses how her 99-year-old Aunt Marie still has the energy to walk her dog daily and needs no prescription medication.

Aunt Marie does admit to taking a few vitamin supplements to fill what she describes as nutrition gaps, said Carol, But shes never had to take long-term medication in her life. In fact she only started taking vitamins because she feels the soil is less fertile today and as a result foods dont contain as much nutrition as they once did.

Shes always followed what Id term a philosophy of common sense and moderation and its certainly paid off.

Carol goes on to list 10 of her Aunt Maries lifestyle philosophies on the show from eating natural foods such as butter rather than margarine, to laughing a lot and providing the body with the space and time to heal itself.

Outwith the family environment, well-known natural health advocates Dr. Steven Sinatra and Dr. Julian Whitaker also proved to be Carols mentors over the years. Today she is more convinced than ever that nourishing the body with healthy organic living results in an obvious beauty for women - both inside and out.

There is such a great need among women to know how to really take care of themselves and not only feel healthy and strong but beautiful as well, she said. A womans true beauty comes from being in the best of health and having the energy to fully engage in her own life. There isnt a cosmetic in the world that can duplicate the glow and radiance of good health, self-confidence and a peaceful mind.

Carols website BioGirlHealth.com provides a whole host of advice on how to start and continue with those natural lifestyle changes, from choosing the best flax seed oil to cleaning hair with products which wont strip it off natural oils.

Recently Exposed Cyber Attacks Show Hackers Scoring Huge Victories in Critical US Sectors

New York, NY (PRWEB) May 14, 2013

May is not even half over and already there have been some massive cyber attacks making headlines this month, with two being especially frightening. First up was a three-year long cyber intrusion that compromised massive amounts of data from a military defense contractor, QinetiQ North America. They only have their fingers in areas like satellites, drones, robotics, military software and other high-tech gadgets the US military depends on to maintain dominance. The second involved two intricately orchestrated and sophisticated attacks involving the banking sector and ATMs that netted $ 45 million in cash in roughly ten hours, carried out with precision coordination that spanned over two dozen countries. Joe Caruso, CEO/CTO of Global Digital Forensics (GDF), took some time to discuss the implications of such breaches and the importance for any organization to keep their cyber security posture current.

A very big deal

If there are two industries that raise the hair on my arm when I think about them getting breached by cyber attackers, its military defense and the financial sector. When nefarious players manage to take control of these types of digital assets, it doesn't just have the potential to topple a company, it could topple a nation, and more.

Not with a bang, but a whimper

Hackers had access to QinetiQs data on and off for three years. Think about that. Their experts said the intruders had access to virtually everything over the longevity of the attack. So basically, the secrets to all this cutting-edge technology our nation depends on for security and stability, whether already deployed or still in the developmental phase, has been compromised, which means potential enemies now have the recipe and all the ingredients they need to make Kryptonite. And if that happens, the shock-and-awe of our next military engagement may quickly turn into shock and awe on our part when our superior technology is neutralized right out of the gate.

Out of control

As far as the $ 45 million cyber heist goes, the most disturbing thing to me is not that they executed the plan with such precision, or had access to live account credentials with substantial funds, or even that they had boots on the ground around the world to collect the actual cash, thats all been done to some degree for years. What got my attention is that they were able to manipulate internal controls that reset limits and other protection features. And thats a very big deal. Like Rothschild said, Give me control of a nation's money and I care not who makes it's laws. So I think its pretty self-evident that constant vigilance on the cyber security front is not a luxury, its a paramount responsibility for every organization doing business online or relying on digital assets with value to cyber attackers, and that includes just about everybody these days. Because even a small business can be a springboard for attackers to gain access to larger organizations through their vendor and/or client connectivity with them.

Understanding todays cyber threat landscape is crucial

With every organization having its own unique footprint in the digital world, its only logical that the cyber threat landscape each faces is unique as well. Our cyber threat assessments are designed to take out the guesswork about what kind of threats should be on an organizations radar, and uncover areas of weakness regarding cyber security policies and procedures as they relate to an organizations digital architecture. So, for instance, if they have a BYOD (Bring Your Own Device) policy in effect, the threats that can come from the mobile side of the house, like smartphones and tablets, must be scrutinized, as well as the cross platform relationships and interactions with the ESI (Electronically Stored Information) that can be accessed. And its important to do this regularly, because as threats evolve, and they always do, what was effective yesterday may have serious deficiencies today.

Simulating real world attackers

Another component which is very effective at uncovering weakness in cyber defense is penetration testing. We take on the role of real-world attackers and launch attacks using the same tradecraft and tenacity todays cyber intruders use. From phishing and spear phishing campaigns, to all sorts of social engineering tricks to breach physical levels of security, like air-gaps used when segmenting critical internal systems from more vulnerable outward-facing networks, we will attempt to gain access to credentials, systems and data and/or attempt to deliver GDF infected payloads, which thus far we have never failed to do. Its an eye-opening experience which has a long lasting effect as far as keeping cyber security on everyones mind. Once an employee, manager or executive can be called out as a weak link, its something that isnt easily forgotten. Once all the results are in and analyzed, we can work hand in hand with an organization to start closing the holes and stopping the relevant threats.

Breach Response and Remediation

The ramifications of a successful cyber assault don't end with the intrusion, regulatory compliance agencies are also waiting their turn to add insult to injury. With stricter regulation and pursuit through Sarbanes-Oxley (SOX), HIPPA, PCI, GLB and other legislation, it is imperative that organizations have a cyber emergency incident response plan in place. GDF and its global network of Emergency Response Teams (ERTs) can be on site in matter of hours to isolate, secure and investigate security breaches. We are very good at helping organizations put out the fires that can come from even a single successful cyber intrusion, including the hits that trust and credibility can take from a client, vendor and investor perspective.
