Skin Care Expert Sharon Kleyne Announces Sunscreen May Not Be Enough

Grants Pass, OR (PRWEB) May 07, 2013

Bio-Logic Aqua Research Founder and water and health advocate Sharon Kleyne, recently announced that merely applying sunscreen when exposed to direct sunlight may not be sufficient to prevent reactions such as heat stroke, carcinoma or melanoma. The skin moisturizing innovator believes that to obtain maximum benefit, sunscreen users must become educated on the limitations of the product and on ways to minimize these limitations

Kleyne hastens to add that sunscreen products are extremely effective and have saved many lives. In the present era of increasing solar radiation, sunscreen has become indispensable.

The primary limitation of sunscreen, according to Kleyne, is that it can cause a backup of toxins in the skin and body that would normally be excreted through the skin along with perspiration. The toxin backup can cause an inflammatory immune response that could be physically dehydrating and actually increase the risk of dehydration diseases such as heat stroke.

Kleyne advises always make sure you are well hydrated before going out in the sun and that you remain well hydrated while in the sun and afterwards. In other words, increase your water intake. Mrs. Kleyne cautions against making sunscreen your only sun protection. The best solar protection is light, loose clothing, wide-brimmed hats and shade. If you begin feeling overheated, clammy, weak or dizzy, get out of the sun immediately and drink small sips of water until you feel better.

If your skin begins to show signs of sunburn, cover up and then hydrate your skin with a pure water mist.

Kleyne advocates applying sunscreen any time you believe your skin will be exposed to direct sunlight, summer or winter. The ideal time to apply sunscreen, according to Kleyne, is immediately after a bath or shower, when skin is at its most hydrated. Kleyne highly recommends the use of make-up that has a sunscreen SPF rating.

For maximum benefit, says Mrs. Kleyne, sunscreen should always be applied with a foundation of knowledge.

Sun Damage - The Long-Term Benefits of Sunscreen

Los Angeles, California (PRWEB) May 27, 2013

Whether faced with scorching sunshine or dull dreary weather, putting on sunscreen before stepping out is now a regular part of every person's skin care regimen. According to a May 2013 W Magazine article, titled Generation SPF, while SPF 30-50 is regularly used, many men and women have shifted to broad-spectrum sunscreens that will help them even in dull weather. Research has proven that UVA rays, which are harmful to the skin, will penetrate even the thickest of clouds on a dreary day (Go to goo.gl/bg2CV).

As reported in the W Magazine article, one is never too young to start a skin care regimen that includes a sunscreen and the right mix of cosmetics. Approximately 35 years ago, the US Food and Drug Administration introduced the SPF system to guide people in the use of sunscreen and how it is understood. Around 1985, the first SPF 15 creams were introduced and research began on the skin and its relationship with cancer, leading to the beginning of awareness on melanoma.

The article goes on to say that of those in their 30s who were introduced to sun block at a young age and have been regular users, many currently have skin like that of a 20-year old. Their skin does not have any freckles on common areas like the hands, neck and chest. In fact, for those who have been diligent in their use of sunscreen, the signs of photo-aging are often hardly there.

Those that were not introduced to a good sunscreen at a young age and would like to work on reversing the effects of sun damage on the skin should consider going in for a fractional laser treatment, says Dr. Ourian. This procedure restores the skin's glow and health, reduces fine lines and wrinkles, and enhances skin tone and texture.

Skin Care Daily Sunscreen Use Slows Skin Aging

Los Angeles, California (PRWEB) June 08, 2013

According to a June 3, 2013 CBS News article titled Daily Sunscreen Slows Skin Aging, Even in Middle Age: Study, the use of sunscreen on a daily basis may slow down photo-aging, or skin aging caused by exposure to the sun's ultraviolet rays. While millions use sunscreen to protect themselves against skin cancer and sunburn, researchers have found that sunscreen may provide more skin care benefits than previously thought. (Go to goo.gl/IwaHt).

Im not at all surprised by the test results reported by the University of Queensland, says Dr. Simon Ourian, Medical Director of Epione Beverly Hills. Ive been a strong advocate of daily sunscreen use for many years.

According to the article, antioxidants and sunscreen makers have claimed their products prevent the visual signs of aging, but this contention hasnt previously been backed scientific evidence. The researchers involved in this new study examined 903 individuals aged 55 and below with the purpose of determining whether people who use sunscreen products on a daily basis show signs of aging more slowly than those who only applied the products discretionally.

The report continues by saying that after four years of tracking, researchers have calculated that those who used sunscreen daily showed a 24% decrease in skin aging compared to those who used it discretionally. The anti-aging effects of sunscreen have manifested in all daily-use participants regardless of age, showing that even middle aged people can use it for skin care benefits.

The results of this study should convince more people to take skin care seriously and encourage them to use sunscreen on a regular basis, says Dr. Ourian. It is best for people, especially those who are exposed to the sun's rays regularly, to consider using a broad-spectrum sunscreen, which protects against harmful UVA and UVB rays. The product should also have an SPF of fifteen or higher, as a product with a lower SPF may only protect against sunburn and not against aging and skin cancer.

Skin Care Sunscreen Slows Skin Aging

Los Angeles, CA (PRWEB) June 11, 2013

In the ongoing battle to preserve the appearance of youth, women (and some men) will spend hundreds of dollars on a wide array of anti-aging products. Many of these products claim to fight the signs of aging. However, according to a June 4, 2013 Fox News article titled Sunscreen Slows Skin Aging, Study Shows, simply applying sunscreen daily can do wonders to prevent the visible signs of aging (Go to goo.gl/DTIqc).

An ounce of prevention really is worth a pound of cure, says Dr. Simon Ourian, Medical Director of Epione Beverly Hills. I cant say that Im at all surprised by the results of the study. Ive been recommending daily sunscreen use for many years.

According to the article, between 1992 and 1996, a study of 900 men and women from Australia showed some remarkable results regarding photo-aging. Photo-aging caused by the sun's UV rays often leads to wrinkles, slack and coarse skin, higher levels of dryness, and increased visibility of blood vessels in the facial area. All of these are associated with the aging process but it turns out that the sun may be the bigger culprit.

The article goes on to say that the adults in the above-mentioned test group (all below 55 years of age) were split into two groups, one of which was asked to apply sunscreen regularly. This group was required to apply the lotion before and after swimming, heavy exercising, or tanning. The second group was permitted to use sunscreen as and when they saw fit or not at all, if that was their preference. At the conclusion of the study, the participants who used sunscreen on a daily basis were show to be 24% less likely to display premature signs of aging.

Until recently, it was assumed that sunscreen only offered protection against the immediate effects of sun exposure such as sunburn, says Dr. Ourian. There is now concrete evidence demonstrating that sunscreen with SPF 15 or higher can protect against the visible signs of aging.

Sunscreen That Feels Like Nothing On

Seattle, WA (PRWEB) June 17, 2013

Youre never fully dressed without the SPF. A recent independent study by the National Health and Medical Research Council of Australia concluded that people who applied broad-spectrum sunscreen liberally on a daily basis over a period of four years were able to preserve their skin and noticeably slow the premature aging caused by unprotected exposure to the sunin short, using a great sunscreen and more of it equals less wrinkles and sagging over time. The findings of this study may seem like a no-brainer to sunscreen aficionados, but this is the first long-term sunscreen study done on peoplerather than animalsthat conclusively shows the anti-aging benefits of using sunscreen on a consistent basis.

It can seem like a hassle to slather on full-body sunscreen before heading out into the sun, but a minute of application a day can help keep cancer (and wrinkled, brow-spotted skin) away. To make the commitment to sunscreen even easier, the Paulas Choice Research Team is here to share their favorite picks of the best ultra-light-weight broad-spectrum SPF options for face and body on the market today.

Makeup tends to slip right off the face during the warmer months, so using a facial sunscreen like Paulas Choice Skin Balancing Daytime Moisturizer with SPF 30 ($ 20.95 for 2 fl. oz.) that also acts as a primer is a double-win for skin. Cetaphil Dermacontrol Oil Control Moisturizer SPF 30 ($ 16.99 for 4 fl. oz.) is a particularly good sunscreen for those with oily skinor for anyone concerned with the effects of humiditybecause it hydrates, protects and controls shine.

Another favorite for the face is Olay Regenerist UV Defense Regenerating Lotion SPF 50 ($ 31 for 1.7 fl. oz.) for its high SPF rating, impressive blend of cell-communicating ingredients and antioxidants. For an all-in-one sunscreen, Miracle Skin Transformer SPF 20 ($ 48 for 1.7 fl. oz.) comes in a tinted version that may work as a substitute to makeup, but it is also available in a colorless formula.

When it comes to sunscreen for the body, we know that comfort is the difference between using the product and losing it somewhere in the back of a drawer. Fortunately, these modern formulas are so soft and sheer its like wearing nothing at all.

Nu Skin Sunright Body Block SPF 30 ($ 14.50 for 1.7 fl. oz.) is a very good water-resistant broad-spectrum sunscreen that includes antioxidants. For a higher SPF rating, another excellent water-resistant choice is Paulas Choice Extra Care Non-Greasy Sunscreen SPF 50 ($ 14.95 for 5 fl. oz.) which is ideal for combination, oily, or blemish-prone skin. Those who prefer a spray-on sunscreen should try a product like Topix Replenix Sheer Physical Sunscreen SPF 50+ ($ 38 for 4 fl. oz.) which is also water-resistant and sets to a very soft hydrating finish.

When it comes to getting the full range of benefits from sunscreen, liberal application is key so remember not to skimp outespecially not on your face, which sees the most sun day after day. Foundations with sunscreen are a great asset, but to ensure the highest level of protection its always best to layer foundation over sunscreen simply because sunscreen needs to be applied much more generously than foundationespecially if a more natural look is desired for the summertime.
