On a report written for sciencedaily.com, it was discovered by the International Food Information Council Foundation that half of consumers were actually interested in including more protein in their diets, and 37% thinks that successful weight loss is more guaranteed when protein is integrated into their diet. According to sciencedaily.com, there is a recent study found that explores different ways of losing weight. The major point of the study focused on using virtual reality for weight loss and weight management.

In the study, results came from twenty overweight and obese people, who focused on either face to face or virtual reality methods of weight management. It was found that by using virtual reality, weight loss and weight maintenance was considered more favorable to those who deal with face to face interactions with real people. Debra Sullivan, lead investigator, adds, "Although we found weight loss was significantly greater for face-to-face compared to virtual reality, weight maintenance was significantly better for virtual reality."

Dr. Sullivan explains, "Individuals who want to participate in real-life scenarios without real-life repercussions can use virtual reality. For example, participants can practice meal planning, grocery shopping, and dietary control when eating at restaurants and holiday parties to a much greater extent with Second Life compared with the time-limited clinic meeting. Virtual reality may even be able to serve as a more feasible option to monitor individuals after completing a weight loss program."
