Texas Pediatrician States New Research Linking Skim Milk to Childhood Obesity

Austin, TX (PRWEB) April 01, 2013

Dr. Marta Katalenas, noted pediatrician and author of The Step Up Diet: From Scratch... The Quality, Quantity, and Timing Solution to Childhood Obesity, is advising parents to rethink their use skim milk as tool to combat childhood obesity. Dr. Katalenas notes that whole milk and proper nutrition, along with the quantity, quality, and timing of meals, is essential to a childs diet.

There isnt a single culprit ingredient that has caused the obesity epidemic, but we clearly eat too many carbohydrates since sugar is added to everything, stated Dr. Katalenas. To fight obesity you need proper nutrition, which includes drinking milk three times a day, and you need to consider Q-Q-T: the quality of food, the quantity you serve and the timing of meals.

According to a new research study on childhood obesity in the Archives of Disease in Childhood, milk is a good source of calcium and vitamin D, but low-fat milk may not be useful in promoting weight loss. In the past The American Academy of Pediatrics and the American Heart Association recommended that children consume low-fat milk after age two to avoid weight gain, but new research shows that children who drank skim or low-fat milk showed more weight gain than children who drank whole milk.

These findings are no surprise to Dr. Katalenas. She concludes that children who drink whole milk feel fuller, and therefore eat fewer calories in a day than children who drink skim milk. She adds that in addition to calcium for bone development, children also need fat for neural development. The brain is made up of pure cholesterol and needs fat to create the myelin lining of nerves to protect the body from nervous disorders, such as multiple sclerosis.

Some schools offer chocolate milk as an alternative to whole milk, since it contains the same amount of calcium. However, even fat-free chocolate milk contains 27 grams of sugar, which simply substitutes more calories with no nutritional value.

I advise all my patients to drink milk, and there are benefits to the fat in whole milk to protect against neurological disorders, but if they favor low-fat milk, I dont discourage it, stated Dr. Katalenas. However, my advice about nutrition goes far beyond what type of milk to drink. The origin of the obesity epidemic resides in profound changes in our lifestyles and how we make our daily food choices.

Lean On Life Supports New Research for Self-Guided Treatment of Childhood Obesity

TORONTO, ON (PRWEB) April 03, 2013

Lean On Life, a leading healthy lifestyle website with the latest on weight loss, nutrition and fitness is supporting a recent study looking into guided self-help in fighting childhood obesity.

Usually, intervention methods for childhood obesity involve family-based treatment (including consultations, exercise, nutrition counselling, and time-consuming clinical visits). Given that many families dont have the time, resources, or money to afford these forms of treatment, a new self-guided approach would be beneficial.

A recent study led by Kerri Boutelle, PhD, at the University of California, San Diego School of Medicine has found that a self-guided program for obese children and parents is a viable option for treating obesity, especially with added clinical guidance.

The study, conducted by Boutelle and her colleagues, examined 50 overweight or obese children between the ages of 8 and 12 over a five-month period, and then followed up with the participants six months later.

In the study, participants were given a manual and asked to read through a chapter a week. Every other week participants came into the clinic and met with an interventionist for a short period to discuss progress and any issues. Results of the study showed a significant decrease in participants BMI with sustained results six months later.

Based on these findings, Tal Brodsky, Lean Life Coach at Lean On Life suggests that for families that do not have the financial or time resources, a self-guided approach is a good substitute to clinical help.

Generally, the children and families that are most hard-hit by overweight and obesity are the ones that cant afford to get professional help, Brodsky says. By educating these families and giving them resources to make the necessary changes in their lives, we can now reach a whole other population that did not have access to weight management help.

Brodsky emphasizes that the bi-weekly meetings at the clinic are essential to ensuring that families monitor their progress, are held accountable to their commitment, and can receive support when necessary.

If families are looking to improve their health, diets and activity levels, seeking professional help is certainly an effective way to pursue those changes, Brodsky says. However, for those who cannot afford to do so, arming themselves with knowledge and a strong support base is a great alternative that can prove equally successful.

hGCTreatments / Diet Doc hCG Diets & Weight Loss Plans Fight Childhood Obesity Linked to Overweight Parents

Pittsburgh,PA (PRWEB) April 22, 2013

According to the National Survey of Childrens Health, childhood obesity disproportionately affects children living in low-income, low-education and higher-unemployment households. The relationship between poverty and obesity is, unfortunately, well known, and a recent study by researchers at the Inje University Paik Hospital indicates that children living with overweight parents and children that come from families affected by poverty, are at a higher risk for childhood obesity. Diet Doc's hCG diet plans fight the risk of childhood obesity by offering long-term solutions for overweight parents through personalized hCG diet plans designed to achieve fast weight loss as well as a complete lifestyle change, hopefully helping arrest the increasing childhood obesity epidemic.

As reported in the Korea Herald earlier this year, a study led by Professor Kang Jae-heon with the Department of Family Medicine of the Korean Academy of Family Medicine, drew a definitive connection between overweight parents and the risk childhood obesity presents for their children. Kang Jae-heon focused on a population of 1,502 elementary students over a two-year period to attempt to isolate the major factors contributing to the risk of childhood obesity. After dividing the study into two age groups, children in the first grade and children in the fourth grade, Jae-heon determined that, although factors varied between the two groups, it was clear that children born to or living with overweight parents were at a greater risk for childhood obesity. Parents can diminish the risk of childhood obesity by embracing a healthy lifestyle beginning with weight loss. Diet Doc offers a physician designed and supervised hCG weight loss program adaptable for most people and health specific concerns.

Diet Doc's hCG diet plans are medically supervised, closely monitored weight loss programs that aggressively target excess and unnecessary fat supplies while offering flexible and satisfying meal plans. Unlike other low calorie diet plans, the Diet Doc hCG diet controls appetite so patients can choose the foods they enjoy most and keep energy levels high. The goal of these diet plans is not to simply achieve initial weight loss. While patients will see weight loss results, the program continues providing support and guidance to maintain weight loss and begin a healthy lifestyle.

Over the last decade, thousands of clients have successfully used Diet Doc diet plans to effectively achieve their weight loss goals. Diet Doc weight loss diet plans were developed by a team of diet consultants combining nutrition statistics and demonstrated results to create the safest and most effective hCG diet plans available. If Diet Doc diet plans are diligently followed, patients can lose their maximum weight loss potential of up to 15 20 pounds per month. The Diet Doc weight loss system personalizes diet plans to the unique health history, age, gender and lifestyle of each particular patient to optimize the best results possible. Diet Doc believes that this protocol is the way to achieve safe and quick weight loss as well as a complete long-term lifestyle change.

hCGTreatments / Diet Doc hCG Diets & Weight Loss Plans Now Help Patients with Weight Gain Linked to Childhood ADHD Lose Weight Fast

Houston, TX (PRWEB) May 24, 2013

With todays levels of weight gain and obesity reaching epidemic proportions, many people are hunting for advice on the causes of weight gain and how to lose weight fast. New studies are constantly being developed that suggest causes of weight gain and treatments that will help patients lose weight fast. This week, a study was released by the Child Study Center at NYU Langone Medical Center that found a clear relationship between the childhood diagnosis of ADHD and the soring rates of obesity later in life. Diet Docs new hCG diets can now focus on creating individual diet plans, healthy eating and lifestyle changes even for those potentially affected by symptoms of ADHD, to lose weight fast.

As reported on Yahoo Healthy, Dr. F. Xavier Castellanos, one researcher on this project, stated, As we learn more about the regions of the brain that may be implicated in obesity, they overlap with brain regions implicated in ADHD."

Castellanos also noted that there is a theory that the impulsive eating found to accompany obesity may be a reflection of the poor planning and difficulty in decision making associated with ADHD. This ten-year study followed the lives of 207 boys and compared weight gain to the weight gained by a population not diagnosed with ADHD. They found that by the age of 41, the ADHD subjects were 19 pounds heavier, on average, than their non-ADHD counterparts.

Diet Docs hCG diets utilize medically supervised weight loss plans to help patients overcome impulsive eating and poor food choices and to help to lose weight fast. Because hCG diets are designed around the personal needs of each individual patient, issues such as the symptoms of ADHD, as they associate with healthy eating choices, can be taken into consideration when determining the most effective way for patients to lose weight fast.

Diet Doc physicians are not general practice physicians and are instead highly trained in the specifics of hCG diets. They receive distinctive training and specialize in understanding the causes of weight gain and obesity, the implications of weight loss on a patients body, what causes a body to fight weight loss and the best methods for patients to lose weight fast. Using this training, Diet Docs team of weight management experts develops hCG diet plans around patients food preferences, age, gender, lifestyle, and, most importantly, health and medical considerations. hCG diets can be tailored for those individuals looking to lose less than twenty pounds to those who need to lose much more weight and to patients that have gained weight over the course of their lives from diagnoses such as ADHD. Diet Docs hCG diets are successful in allowing patients to lose weight fast because they are customized for each individual patient to promote quick and easy weight loss.

hCGTreatments / Diet Doc hCG Diets & Weight Loss Plans Now Offer New Weight Loss Diets that Educate Patients, Targeting Weight Gained During Childhood and Adolescence

Houston, TX (PRWEB) May 30, 2013

Learning how to lose weight gained over time can be difficult and challenging, especially if the weight has been carried for decades or sometimes even longer. A new study conducted by Rice University and the University of Houston reviewed the growing instances of childhood obesity and the effects of childhood obesity as it is carried into adulthood. Researchers for this study found that a persons family structure could have significant effects on weight gain and obesity during childhood. Diet Docs hCG weight loss diets are now designed to address weight gain from any stage of life and offer patients expert weight loss tips and education on healthy eating so patients can learn how to lose weight the best way for their personal needs.

Co-author of this new study and associate professor of sociology at Rice University, Rachel Kimbro, told Medical News Today that this study began over the concern for childhood obesity as a growing public health issue. Kimbro and her colleagues surveyed a population of 10,400 children from both traditional and non-traditional families. The results of the study indicate that children are more prone to being overweight or obese when they live in a non-traditional family structure, such as being raised by a single parent or other family member, as opposed to children raised in a traditional family setting. Weight gained during childhood could be carried into adolescence and into adulthood and can cause serious health concerns and consequences along the way. Diet Docs hCG weight loss diets provide relief for those suffering from weight gain and offer effective and lasting treatments and education for patients searching for how to lose weight fast.

hCG weight loss diets were originally established in the 1950s by researcher A.T.W. Simeons. Simeons isolated the hormone hCG and found that, when naturally produced by pregnant females, hCG mobilized excess and unnecessary fat storage to provide a growing fetus with proper nutrition. During this process, the mothers necessary structural fat and muscle mass remained intact. Simeons used this research to develop diet plans and incorporated the hCG hormone into weight loss diets as a fat mobilizer and effective appetite suppressant but advised his patients to consume an extremely limited amount of calories. While the contemporary Diet Doc hCG diet plans use Simeons research from the 1950s, they have eliminated the dangerously low recommended calorie intake and, because of todays advanced science and medical understanding, remain effective even with patients consuming twice the amount of calories recommended in the 1950s.

Diet Docs weight loss diets are successful in helping patients lose weight with hCG treatments, but also encourage lasting weight maintenance through education on healthy eating that teaches patients how to lose weight effectively for their body type and how to maintain that weight in the future. Patients work one-on-one with certified nutritionists to develop custom meal and snack plans that educate patients on proper nutrition, how to lose weight and how to keep that weight off for a lifetime. Diet Docs weight loss diets are designed around the personal needs, lifestyle choices and health history of the individual patient and address issues such as childhood obesity while educating patients on how to lose weight and create healthy lifestyle changes. Diet Doc is committed to helping patients achieve happier, healthier and more active lifestyles through hCG weight loss diets.

Obesity Resulting From Childhood Abuse is Reversible, Says DietAssist

(PRWEB UK) 2 June 2013

In a new study published in the journal Obesity, researchers found that severe abuse can cause 90% increase in food addiction risk.

It has long been thought that childhood abuse can affect psychological health, but this research shows a link between their physical health as well.

The research, led by Susan Mason, Ph.D. at Columbia University, followed 57,321 adult subjects to discover whether food addiction is related to a history of childhood abuse.

They discovered that women with food addiction were 6 units of BMI heavier than women without food addiction and that severe physical and severe sexual abuse were associated with roughly 90% increases in food addiction risk.

They also found that those who experienced physical or sexual abuse in childhood were nearly twice as likely to have a food addiction when compared to women who had no history of childhood abuse.

In the development of the DietAssist programme that teaches people how to lose weight, the creators worked with many clients that suffered abuse or trauma as a child. However, it is their belief that although the trauma or abuse may have set up the behaviour in the past, it is reversible.

Rob Woodgate, co-creator of the DietAssist programme, said, This research supports our clinical work by confirming the link between obesity and a past traumatic event. What it doesnt address is the mechanism.

The emotional parts of our mind tend to respond habitually and literally to the things we experience. Obesity is often used as a way to protect us from such abuse, either by providing a comforting protective padding, or by sometimes making the person less attractive to the abuser.

This protective behaviour can become habitual, however, so the obesity continues long after the abuse stops. The good news is that these protective habits are reversible, and although severe cases may require one-to-one sessions, our DietAssist programme gives most people the tools they need to help themselves.

The DietAssist programmed is the result of over 20 years experience of helping people to lose weight effectively, and uses the latest psychological techniques to avoid the self sabotage and demotivation that dieters commonly experience.

The DietAssist programme helps dieters strengthen their motivation and resolve, and creates the optimum psychological state for success. It is designed to work alongside any weight loss programme or sensible eating plan.
