On March 4, Sara Greenstone, a representative from NewVo Beauty, comments on an article published by Fox News explaining that many cancer-causing ingredients are found in hair and body care products.
According to Fox News, February is National Cancer Prevention Month. The National Cancer Institute estimated that one in two adults will get cancer at some point in their lifetime. Many of the cancer causing products are used for the skin and hair, but there are ways to prevent it, Fox News reports.
The Environmental Working Group, according to Fox News, said that the ingredients to avoid when picking hair or body products are parabens, formaldehyde and petroleum distillates.
Greenstone said many shampoos contain parabens. Parabens are chemicals often present in shampoo and hair treatments that have been linked to cause cancer, she said. There are some hair brands that make sulfate and paraben free products, like Pureology. Greenstone said many Brazilian straightening treatments and keratin processes use formaldehyde which is also a main cancer-causing ingredient in a lot of straightening treatments. Greenstone advised those who are trying to avoid cancer-causing products to look at the ingredients before purchasing.
Sometimes people look at a product and see the term all natural, she said. However, that doesnt necessarily mean that there arent chemicals in there that could be harmful to your body.
